It was a bit of a dive. However ... the defender made contact (you can see it on some camera angles) and the defender was stupid to give the ref a decision to make. He was nowhere near the ball. He clearly stuck his foot out by instinct to try and hamper Welbeck's progress. Welbeck didn't need to be asked twice to go down but Chiriches (I think) needs to be very careful with that kinda shite 'cuz it'll bite him eventually.

Its a dive all day long for me. People seem to forget that football is a contact sport, and that includes the penalty area. If Welbeck got a toe to the shin then it doesn't give him the right to cheat by doing the pathetic theatrical collapse.

United rapidly getting a reputation of diving, somthing Moyes was very much against whilst at Everton.

Obviously Fergie told them for over 20 years if you feel contact go down the Ref will give a penalty. It's not something they are going to stop doing straight away it will not compute with the players or fanbase that just because you are losing you get a soft pen!

Moyes losing the plot to the cameras is funny and the longer they struggle the better. Top 4 is gonna be very tough to achieve without the big boys Webb and Dowd to bail them out!!

Man Utd team needs a massive rebuild. But buying an entire new team in the transfer window still won't make Man Utd contenders for a Champions League place.

Problem is what Tottenham has experienced this year after the Bale out money. New players come in with their individual talents they think they were bought for and they try to express them to cement their place in the first XI.

Too many new players at once doing this you have too many players playing as individuals not as a team.

Tonev to the power of n.

Suarezpool is the most likely team to drop out of the top four but that won't be this year, and it's their place to lose next year as well. Could be a number of years before Utd can get into the top four again.

They dont need a whole new team, they won the league last year and have only 5 players over 30.

A couple of quality players and they will be a different proposition.

Six players.

Experienced core

Giggs - 40

Ferdinand - 35

Evra - 32

Carrick - 32

Vidic - 32

Van Persie - 30

These 6 players are the core of the team. The most reliable players. This season shows they are now not good enough to keep Man Utd in the top four. Man Utd need to replaced them. All six.

Three defenders, midfielder and a striker.

Peak core

Fletcher - 29

Rooney - 28

Valencia - 28

Young - 28

Nani - 27

Not only do Man Utd need to replace 6 core players they have a large group core players at their peak, mostly creative players, that will need to be replaced next.

So that they can be seemlessly integrated into the team they will have to prepare now to replace them, with younger players who will be equally good.

What does their emerging core promise?

Emerging core

Fellaini - 26

Evans - 25

Anderson - 25

Hernandez - 25

Cleverley - 24

Buttner - 24

Kagawa - 24

Smalling - 24

Rafael - 23

Fabio - 23

Welbeck - 23

De Gea - 23

Two creative players here: Kagawa and Welbeck. Kagawa is still largely unproven in the Premier League, Welbeck is great IMO but is he that much better than Sturridge?.

How good is this emerging core compared to those they are going to replace. Who thinks Smalling and Evans is as good as Ferdinand or Vidic? I don't.

Cleverley better than Carrick? I don't think he's better than Delph.

Fellaini, Buttner and Hernandez have not established themselves yet as regular first team players so we cannot say they could be the basis for a successful team. Anderson is always injured and will probably be sold.

Rafael and Fabio are established but they have had some disciplinary issues. Are they club leaders? There are players at other clubs as good as them.

Promising talents

Jones - 21

Zaha - 21

Janujaz - 18

Jones has not been able to convince Ferguson or Moyes that CB is his best position.

Zaha is is the Valencia/Young replacement. A new player who has not yet been worked into the team.

Janujaz looks promising but won't carry the team with his experience over the next few years.

In summary, this Man Utd team needs a complete rebuild from defence to attack.

They immediately need:

Three world class defenders - neither Jones, Smalling or Evans are world class centre-backs, as were Vidic and Ferdinand. They are great players who are very adaptable but they are not world class centre-backs. Man Utd will also need to replace/challenge Evra.

Two or three world class central midfielders - creative and solid. Man Utd has a major weakness here. Cleverley is great but not world class. Fellaini is a new player who has not integrated yet. Kagawa has been there over a season now but has not made a spot his own yet.

Litmus test: are these players better than Fernandinho, David Luiz, Hazard, Yaya Toure, Oscar, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil etc. No way! Much more depth in midfield needed. They're still playing Giggs ffs.

One world class forward

Man Utd should have three world class strikers capable of 20 goals a season. Van Persie will need to be challenged/replaced.

This is what they need to challenge top 4 again let alone the PL title.

Con is right. United are on the brink of requiring a major overhaul. Fergie knew this too. They're also (rather hilariously) dangerously close to not getting top 4 and the riches that it brings. That'd be terrible.

Honestly I think the Januzaj stat is terrible, 18 years old and 4th most booked for diving ever in the Prem is a disgrace. Needs a kick up the backside the little flea.

He should be hauled before the FA over it.

TBH Ive waited years for the demise of Manure and I'm loving it, every decision that goes against them, every game they dont win, every time Moyes whinges on the telly, every time an obnoxious armchair supporter who has never even been to Manchester moans about not winning, I'm loving it, long may it continue. I look forward to a time when they are playing in a half empty stadium because all their glorhunting daytrippers have jumped onto the next big thing, when all their big players have left because they cant get champions league, when the Glazers decide they cant be arsed, when thier debt gets bigger and bigger and when i can go into a sports shop nowhere near Manchester and not have to walk through the isle of red manc mechandise.
