Good advice there MakemineVanilla.  I'd also add that if you are struggling to sleep and your evening time is on the empty side, go for a walk or do something that might tire you in some way.  You might simply be going to bed with too much energy left in you.

When people post "has he gone yet?" in threads about players/managers who might be on their way out.

My personal 'favourite' is when people ask why a thread hasn't been locked when there's absolutely no reason for it to be locked other than the fact that they themselves are bored clicking in it.

On a related note and on topic. Brushing your teeth immediately before bedtime. Just at the point where you're tired and manage to drag yourself up the stairs, you have to go and brush your teeth which is a vigorous enough exercise that it wakes you completely the f**k up again. Grrr.  The trick, I think, is to brush them after your final meal but well before bedtime. That way you can fall into bed exhausted.

I would make more sense to brush just after dinner, rather than an arbitrary time like before bed, then just when you get up.

 

I brush my teeth if I'm going out too, so pubs and stuff, it's all good.

Not being able to sleep, anyone got some good advice on how to deal with it ?

 

Do not nap in the evening.

Do not imbibe caffeine drinks late at night.

Go to bed at the same time every night.

Do not try to match your sleep time with your partner's.

Set up a going to bed ritual of doing certain little jobs, which you will learn to associate with going to bed.

Don't do anything in bed except sleeping, no watching TV etc.

Try not to get anxious about not sleeping.

Count in your head if you have distracting thoughts.

 

The biggest cause of sleep disturbance is shift work.

 

I always take alittle nap after ive been to the gym and i love watching TV in bed, has done so for 15 years, noway i can stop that.

The point of brushing your teeth before bed is not to have nice breath in the morning.  It's about bacteria and the fact the wet warm mouth complete with bits of food in it is the ideal breeding ground for them.

Ooh I hate that. It's so wrong. JMHO. I'd never have a TV in the bedroom. Now I'm well up for lying on the couch and watching telly, but once I'm in bed that's it.

Had some Pringles Sunday in between multiple tugging myself off sessions, brushed my teeth before bed, woke up about 4am and could actually feel my tongue stuck onto the back of my throat with the stuff on the pringles acting as a kind of glue and I'd to like pull it off (tongue not the other thing).

agreed.  My bedrooms is a sanctuary of peace and sleeping.

 

Black-out curtains.

No TV, no artificial light except for one small dim display of time on my alarm clock.

 

So my body knows when it enters the bedroom that this is the place to unwind and go straight to sleep.

These days I find it almost unsettling going to sleep without something on.

 

TV, radio, music, podcast, laptop anything.

 

I don't even watch or listen to whatever it is. It's just on.

 

Helps me zone out and I'm asleep in seconds. Alone with my thoughts is much more restless than having something on.

 

I've also never understood the blackout thing. I could sleep outside in bright daylight if I wanted to.
