Things that piss you off that shouldn't

My only experience of Exeter is a PWEI end of tour gig and party.

Some basement club with a vaulted roof, that’s it, all I remember, definitely had a vaulted roof, definitely PWEI and yes we got mightily pissed.

Yeah getting drenched walking around the campus ,  but small consolation was the hog roast for lunch at half the price it would be down South

looks like the choice is between  Uni in Exeter or  Leeds at present

I've lived in both Devon and Leeds, I would recommend Leeds of the two.

Fantastic city, especially for younger people. Vibrant with a great night life, great shopping, fantastic restaurants (especially curry houses) and some lovely countryside nearby.

It's better placed logistically too and much easier to travel to/from.

I’m up in the grim North today , visiting Leeds University with my daughter

i should hate it … but don’t , the uni is nice , the people are nice and I’ve not seen one bath tub full of coal yet

i must be getting mellow in old age

edit - oh and Yorkshire flapjack company might have produced the best flapjack  ever  with their honey and nut one

That would be The Cavern on Gandy Street. Great little venue and still going strong.

Everything about the following: Was out for a bike ride, found a wallet on a grass verge. No contact number inside it. So I called HSBC, to say one of your customers has lost his wallet and I’ve got it, can you pass on my number. Gave them the card details so they could identify and contact him. They then said they’d cancelled his card to prevent fraud, could I cut up the card. I asked them again to pass on my details and they said, no, not their problem. Next, I thought “local police station”. Closed, I mean closed down closed. Right, there’s a classic car thing on near my house, I’m going there on the way back, there’s bound to be a plod around. Was there heck!  Next, got home, called the 101 number for minor reporting of stuff like lost and found. What police service do you want to talk to? Lancashire. Get put through. “We do not deal with lost and found, go online and report it”. Went online. Ticked the boxes “contact his bank” and “we do not deal with low value items”. Next, his other bank card, wary that they’ll do the same as HSBC. Tide Bank.  Got through, then they cut me off. Tried again, same result. One last go…”send us a photo of his card, as we can’t find his details”, “will you pass on my number to him, or I’m ending this call?” “”I don’t know if we can do that” “well find out, then”…10 minutes on hold…”possibly we can, please include your details on the email, with the photo”. Email sent, got a reply “Thanks, can you cut up his card”. Also called a business card number for someone in his wallet, in case they had his number. They didn’t. Called a number on a piece of paper in there. No answer.

Now all that should piss me off, and did, but the thing that shouldn’t is that all that effort for a fellow human is fine,….but he’s a Man Utd. fan. I’m an idiot.

Make sure to wipe the edge of the wallet down your bum crack before returning it if you do manage to get hold of him.  Hand it to him sticky side first 👍

The Police stopped taking responsibility for lost prop about ten years ago. Cutbacks innit.

Crime is down 50% too.

If you can’t report crime did it ever exist?🤷‍♂️

Ta. The thing is with all this, there’s not the slightest hint of human in any of it. Banks just interested in stopping fraud, Police cutbacks so no police stations for miles. Nothing in the system to deal with “this person’s life would be much easier if they got their wallet back, or knew it had been found”.

People who talk really quietly when it's really loud.

Went to a fan park thingamajig yesterday with some mates.
Got talking to one guy who was a friend of a friend.

Nice bloke, conversation was fine, but he talked so quietly.

There was music playing, and loads of people, but he just talked at a normal volume. I basically had to lean in so my ear was almost touching his mouth, and even then I had to ask him to repeat absolutely everything and guess at half the stuff he was saying.

Take the hint!

yeah we had to get escorted out the library via a back door by security as the protestors had blocked the front doors and were trying to "storm" the library

It seems their objective is to get the university shut down as they haven't come out and publicly condemned Israel

but , lefty activism apart , it was a decent weekend , Trinity shopping centre and the corn exchange etc had far fewer empty / closed down shops than the affluent South , even the late night drunks seemed pretty well behaved

Looking at UCL in London next  , probably a bit too close to home and we'd never get rid of her  :) so I'm hoping Exeter or Leeds remain the front runners

Yeah you should have maxed them cards out first, then left them back on the grass verge

Met a strapping young man yesterday and was hoping to get the conversation going as he seemed keen too, but I was keeping my voice down so none of our mates would hear the sweet nothings I was whispering in his ear (so close I could almost lick it!). Unfortunately, the noise was just a bit too loud and I didn't want to raise my voice only for the music to stop just as I was relaying the dirtiest thoughts running through my head. I think I've put him off now, which is especially as shame as he seemed to have really nice feet - at least the upper parts!

Joke's on you, I was wearing socks, and I'm fat now so couldn't be described as strapping.
