Heard on the news Barristers looking to strike next. Can't really see them being on the bread line, but still £150k+ I guess isn't enough these days

£150k+ would be lovely, unfortunately the way things work at the moment they can be on well below minimum wage.

Yeah sometimes teachers don't want to work beyond 3pm

Most teachers that I know are paid below minimum wage.

Go tell a CPS Barrister he's over paid. Most of them are skint

Where on earth did the £150k a yea figure come from, those on that amount are in a different game. These are barristers that are paid out of the already decimated legal aid budget (Ideological cuts too)

James Cartlidge the Courts Minister has said a 15% pay rise would get criminal barristers an extra £7,000

Either The Courts Minister can’t do simple maths, or…

Not bad then, if right.

I start work at Gatwick Airport tomorrow, went along to get my blue badge today so I can work airside only to find that the company hadn't sent them my application.  It meant I could only get a temporary orange one which means I need escorting everywhere, including to go to the toilet.  Why can't people just do their **** jobs properly these days?  Just because they couldn't click on 'send' I have to fanny about like a dickhead waiting for some clearing in the woods's permission to do anything for 2 months.

So, if any more flights are cancelled at Gatwick, we can blame you? :)

@sharkyvilla's first day at work;

"Where do I start boss?"

"Can you move a few cases..."

In all seriousness I'm not sure I can get my airside driving permit on an orange badge so I probably will end up shifting all that kind of shit.  Good job I've got baker's forearms.  I'm just worried about the toilet thing, half a cup of coffee and I'm pissing pints and my bladder waits for no man.

Yep, good luck @sharkyvilla

I’m not expecting instant results, but a bag of pirate CD’s went ‘missing’ from my luggage there back in about 2015. If you do find 6 or 7 CD’s with poorly photocopied covers, I’ll happily cover the postage. Thanks in advance.

I just had a listen to the Secret Barrister being interviewed by James O'Brien and made some notes.

Criminal Barristers are self employed and only get paid when trial completed, so if a trial gets delayed they don't get paid. Obvs covid delayed loads, not sure if they were entitled to furlough money or any other help?

Junior barristers in the 1st 3 yrs earn £12k/yr average

All barristers have to pay overheads eg rent/chambers and take home about 35-40% of gross income

Too long hours to be able to get 2nd job

Not enough barristers, as so many leave due to being burnt out by long hours, low pay and unpredictable income, so trial delays are endemic

50x as many trials adjourned as last year - seems crazy high to me, but that's what they said.

Fully qualified teachers, surely that ain't right? They get paid bands don't they?

Take the salary from those bands and then divide by the number of hours they actually work.

Ohh, that old chestnut. You can pick the bones out many jobs and see the hardship. There's many more worse off than teachers. Nurses perhaps?
