StefanAVFC Posted August 25, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted August 25, 2013 I don't usually mind the railways, but they're shocking on match days. At Walsall we must have waited for about an hour just to get onto the platform.

mjmooney Posted August 25, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted August 25, 2013 Transport costs are bizarre. A few years ago (at the height of the cheap flights era), a return flight from Leeds to Biarritz cost me £1.70. At the time, the 20 minute bus journey from my house to Leeds cost about £3.00. A return train to London, £100. No logic to it.
leviramsey Posted August 25, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted August 25, 2013 Basically zero marginal cost...
chrisp65
I live very close to a mainline train station yet regularly drive 2 / 3 hours to London for meetings. Train costs close to £200 even if booked in advance and takes 2.5 hours to Paddington, tube from there (£12 to park train station all day). Car costs £45 in petrol and £5 to park, roughly 2.5 hours plus tube from Hammersmith. Car goes directly from my house, I've a guaranteed seat and it doesn't smell of burgers n fries. Wainy316
too much if you don't know the difference between an off peak silver saver, an advance silver off peak saver, or a saver day return Genuinely, please can you explain this to me. Sick of getting raped by the rail companies.

PompeyVillan
I used to regularly go to Madrid. The train from Portsmouth to Gatwick regularly cost me twice as much as the flight to Madrid. Are trains too expensive to run or are we being ripped off?
StefanAVFC Posted August 25, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted August 25, 2013 Ripped off surely.
Jimzk5
Going to a wedding in Hartlepool in September, two adults with off peak tickets & 2 changes are £186 each. Or £80 on petrol there and back.
StefanAVFC Posted August 25, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted August 25, 2013 I'm lucky that i'm in railcard age. Can get cheap tickets for £26 a year.
Dr_Pangloss
With my young persons rail card I get a peak return from London to Birmingham on Virgin for £32.
StefanAVFC Posted August 25, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted August 25, 2013 Lichfield to London was £15 return for me. Book in advance and London is dirt cheap.
Dr_Pangloss
Was that on a Virgin train and at peak time? I remember going to London on a London-Midland train off peak for £2.50 lol Edited August 25, 2013 by Dr_Pangloss
StefanAVFC Posted August 25, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted August 25, 2013 (edited) no, but still good value. Yeah, it's so cheap. I did one half of a journey to London on a Virgin for £8 off peak 2 years ago. Other half was £5 on LM. villaajax
These Let There be Beer adverts with Tim Lovejoy... he just seems to go somewhere and orders a pretty commonly available beer like a Fosters and talks about it as if it's something no one has heard of before.
