Stevo985 Posted August 5, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted August 5, 2013 She was being selfish. Doesn't mean you can take stuff out of her trolley though, imo.
Shillzz
Was she being selfish? How do you know what her intentions were for the cakes? If there were other people there who wanted the cakes, then it doesn't really matter what her intentions were. The vast likelyhood is that she was just being greedy, taking all the cakes because they were 50p, and not because she wanted 10 cakes. In which case, she should have left cakes for other people, who might also have benefited from being able to buy a cake for 50p. I'm amazed anyone is defending this, because we'd all be pissed off in that scenario. No exceptions. Edit: It's worth emphasising again that these were £9.99 cakes, the kind that go between 8 people, so unless she was having 80 kids over later that day, then she had no reason to buy them all. Cake-gate has really got me wound up, it has to be said. Edited August 5, 2013 by Shillzz
Eames
Things that piss me off? Grown men on an internet forum debating the ethics of removing reduced cakes from some womans trolley.
Ginko
People posting on a thread just to complain about the other people posting on the... dammit! In all seriousness, it's the principles of politeness and selfishness that are being debated, not cake. Edited August 5, 2013 by Ginko
Phumfeinz
I'm defending the idea that people can buy whatever they want with their money without people taking things out of their trolley. Especially without knowing what said person's intentions are. What if she volunteers at a homeless shelter and saw them as a great chance to feed some people on the cheap? Yeah, it's most likely that she was just being greedy but you don't know and it's unfair to assume, and even worse to actually physically act on that assumption.
Shillzz
I think the repatriation of the cakes is a separate matter. What matters here is the greedy wench who deprived Tony of a slice of Caterpillar cake.
CVByrne
I hate Facebook. But it's a necessary evil. Are you sure you hate Facebook, or do you actually hate the people you've befriended on there? We have done this one a few times in the past, though it remains a good topic. Facebook holds up a mirror to the society you live in, if you hate Facebook then you need to get some more friends, or conduct a cull. I hate how shit the site is, how there is friends and no groups like Google plus. That by default everything you upload is free for all friends to see instead of the Google plus method of picking the circles to share with. The ads on Facebook are obtrusive. Their app is vile and a snooping method. There is no reason it should consume battery if I do not open it that say. Yet it does. It's a horrible experience. Most Facebook qualms revolve around petty statuses etc, but you actually have a genuine gripe with the site.

Ginko
All is fair in cake love and cake war. We could all concoct our own imaginings of why she did it and justify both points of view, so it's a pointless exercise since nobody will ever find out, but if she truly was Mother Theresa then she could have gone round the rest of the supermarket and bought some other things on special offer to make up for it. Eames
Tony - was the woman fat? Is so he was fully right in repatriating the cake she didn't need it and would eat it all. On a slight side note, VT members of a socialist persuasion should applaud Tony for his Marxist principles here. The forced re-distribution of wealth (cake) would be right up a few streets.

Ginko
Probably. I was more defending the fact that Tony took one for himself out of her trolley though.

Those features exist on Facebook. They exist but they are done in a fashion that makes it very cumbersome to use. Google plus with its circles is a far better implementation. But nobody uses Google plus.
