That would hurt Toon more than any fine as it would really slow down their potential progress That was more for Chelsea getting in youths illegally for their 100 loans a season policy IIRC. Think Newcastle will be fine as long as they don't have a Dr Xia type kid in sweetshop owner in charge just spending ridiculous money on about 5 strikers. They have Wilson and Saint Maximn so already some decent attackers so really need to improve central midfield and defence which is bottom 6 prem standard. They won't be signing likes of Mbappe anytime soon but someone Coutinho would start giving them more of a worldwide profile and he can obviously improve them if he's motivated enough. Wonder if they might go for someone like Zaha aswell.
villa4europe
the links today seemed to be lingard, coutinho and icardi could see all 3 happening them giving one of the real big boys a big pot of cash for one on their reserve players is almost a given, the likes of psg getting a £80m ffp shot in the arm for icardi or draxler

Now Everton are pleading poverty Barca need a new prem club to unload their stupid signings so can see them offering Newcastle not just Coutinho but Dembele aswell who can't stay fit but is exciting when on form. They need to sign 3-4 though who'll give them long term security as Man. City did with Aguero, Kompany and Zabaleta so I would be surprised if they signed too many coming up to 30 as likes of Icardi, Lingard and Coutinho all are. Need to build something more sustainable in football as we are doing when you look at how young our first 11 is this season.

I would happily take the cash and reinvest it in new players. That would put us in a really really healthy financial position and enable us to get some quality players. in and pay higher wages.
KMitch
Baffled by all the suggestions everywhere that Newcastle spending will equal Man City 2.0... FFP specifically prevents this now and I would imagine that if the Saudis tried to test the rules against the status quo, the Sky 6 will do everything in their power to try to prevent them from circumventing/bending the rules around spending. If it was this easy, why haven't other very wealthy owners done this yet? Villa are starting to be hamstrung by the rules and just look at teams like Everton to see what happens when too much is spent bringing players in without letting some go out to balance the books.

Peter Griffin
So Bruce hasn't been sacked yet. He had a meeting with Amanda today and no statement. It will be very funny if they release a statement to say Bruce is staying on as manager, which is probably the best thing for them to do and replace him in the summer with a high profile manager. The Toon Army will go into meltdown if Bruce stays.

Ashley has run them with profit the last 3-4 years which means they could spend up to 180-190 M straight off the bat if they wanted to, and would not get in trouble with FFP. For all the shit Mike Aashley has put them through, he has actually put them in a great position right now.

Even if they spent it all extremely well, they would be hard pressed to start challenging for Europe. Blowing 120 million on Lingard, Coutinho, & Icardi leaves them with not a lot of room to build out their defense, which is arguably relegation quality at the moment. Mantis
Yeah that's the thing, even £200m isn't *that* much these days.
theboyangel
I wonder if they’ll allow Bruce to unleash his tactical genius one more time in order to manage his 1000th game? Be ace if they did and got smashed
OutByEaster? Posted October 11, 2021 Moderator Share Posted October 11, 2021 But they can spend £180m in January, without putting the club in a big hole, and even if revenues were to remain as they are, they could then spend a decent sum in the summer. And revenues aren't going to stay as they are, by the time the next summer window opens, Newcastle will be making at least another £40m a year in income, maybe three or four times that much. All that extra money will all be there for them to spend. I think they'll spend a couple of hundred million over the next two windows, bring in some high profile free transfers in the summer that'll get them pushing for Europe and raise their incomes to the point where they can push again the following summer. They won't need all that long - if they can 'find' the additional sponsors they need, they'll be able to spend half a billion pounds in the next three widows and pick up every quality free agent going. Mbappe, Pogba, Fati, Dembele, Dybala, Rudiger, Belotti, Tarkowski - all nearing the end of their contracts - and by the time they get there, Newcastle will have the income to support their wages. What might be interesting is who might be available in the fire sale as they clear out a whole forest of dead wood.

StewieGriffin
Given the quality of their current squad, £200m wont get them anywhere near us, let alone higher. They need 2 centre backs, 3 central midfielders and better back up to Wilson to get halfway up the league. They won't get that for £200m with the prices they'll be quoted. Lets say they bring in Dele Alli, Lingard, Coutinho. £100 for all 3. Lingard on 200k a week, Dele 200k and Coutinho 300k. £100 is a bargain, others could be interested at that price No way Dele Alli is going to be on half of that £200k, same for Lingard I reckon.
