Biskitt
For those who keep saying we need a number 10 type player, do you think our midfield is good enough to operate with just 2 players in central midfield rather than 3 we currently do ? I like the idea of 4-2-3-1 but not sure we have the personnell at present to play this formation regularly without leaving our defence too exposed I'd be happy if we could get a number 10 type player in like Kiyotake that is different to what we have at the moment, but on the provision that they wouldn't be expected to start every game Edited August 29, 2013 by Biskitt
BOF Posted August 29, 2013 Moderator Share Posted August 29, 2013 Anyone think we should try for Holtby from Spurs, even if a loan dealAllegedly going to Ajax on loan and Sigurdsson is for sale.

Away or against the top teams, no we couldn't, that's when we go with a midfield something like Delph-Westwood-KEA and play on the counter. thabucks
Just don't get why everyone raves about Milner like he is a villa legend, he could gave been one, but for a multitude of reasons he left before he could reach that status. Good player for us back in the day but definitely not for us now. We have a player in Delph who I believe will surpass Milner in every way. I rate Defour much higher than Milner and more realistic wages wise if we are looking for a similar player. Siggurdson or holtby from spuds are good shouts. I'm sure levy would love to sell a player bought for 1.5 million 6 months ago for 6-7 million Kiyotake or Fischer would be my prefered choices given what I've read about them. Along with maybe Ba on loan from Porto and a cheeky bid for max clayton from Crewe contract up in the summer. Good prospect.
Popular Post MikeMcKenna Posted August 29, 2013 VT Supporter Popular Post Share Posted August 29, 2013 Big no to Milner from me. Never took to the guy myself. Yeah he is a decent player judging from his days with us but since then he has barely played. Would much rather Kiyotake or a player of similar mould that is a set piece specialist and more attacking. Milner was far more than "decent" when he was with us. He is exactly what we want, absolutely superb player. Also he is still only 27 and so at the perfect age for a midfielder. The guy is wasted at Man City, would be our perfect captain, bring loads of experience and make our midfield tick.
omariqy
Tbh I don't think PL is going for a typical trequartista no. 10. I think he is going for a midfielder that gives us something extra in the final third of the pitch. Whether that is a winger that likes to cut inside or an AM or a box to box midfielder, I don't know.

At home when teams are more defensivly organised and sit a bit deeper we run out of ideas. Id like to see Nzogbia as a numer 10 when he is fit if we dont sign anyone although I imagine many people will disagree

BOF Posted August 29, 2013 Moderator Share Posted August 29, 2013 And Milner has spent the last 3 seasons training with some of the best players in the world. He can't fail but to have improved in that time. But. it. won't. happen.

sne
Milner would no doubt improve us but i feel he's a player in the same mould as Delph only better in pretty much every way and more the finished article. Their main strenghts are movement and workrate, not creativety, composure, positioning or reading the game If we have money to spend i rather it be on a solid DCM or/and a creative CM/ACM. That said i'd love Jimmy back

Nor did I claim he was such but I don't think it is an exaggeration to say his performance that season was the best from a Villa player since Mcgrath.
