KjParton
I disagree - I believe we desperately need a central Attacking midfielder. A true no.10 who specialises in that role. First of all we need more goals from the midfield which this new player needs to be able to do and second he can provide numerous assists, threading balls through to Weimann/Gabby with ease, or whip in a few high crosses for Helenius/(insert other tall striker). Who would you replace from our midfield? Or what would your preferred pairing be? Baring in mind that our defense is pretty weak, and as good as he is, Westwood is pretty lightweight, I don't think we can afford the luxury of a number 10. Our form from last season after Sylla came into the team supports this pretty strongly. I'm not sure, it would probably depend on the player I suppose. But if we were to play with a no.10 then i would definitely have the other midfielders being defensively minded (aka Sylla/Delph?) IMO, its all about healthy competition. This new signing would provide decent competition for a number of our attacking players. Edited July 15, 2013 by KjParton
jacketspuds
I still say we need at least 2 midfielders.. One defensive and one attacking.. In my eyes with the current midfielders we will still concede a lot This. Our midfield remains one of our weakest areas. If we can ship out Ireland and Bannan I'd like to see a DM come in as well as an attacking midfielder to sit behind whoever will come in to replace Benteke. Still quite a lot to do in this window. It wouldn't do any harm, and I guess you could peddle the no 10 out for when we're playing lesser teams, or pressing for a goal. I do, however, think that a proper Benteke replacement will be a more pressing concern, if he leaves.
KjParton
I agree - I think a Benteke replacement will be the necessity, however we were linked with AM's before he handed in the transfer request so wouldn't be surprised if we got both types of player in.

In my eyes with the current midfielders we will still concede a lot That's how i see it to, our current midfield of Delph, Sylla & Westwood isn't skilled or specialiced enough. They are ok players but none of them offer enough cover defensivelly or enough support/threat offensivelly

I have to say, as much as I'd like to see us bring in a 'number 10', we do have a lot of midfielders. At times last season we played a 4-2-3-1 with Ireland or Zog in the number 10 role. But then we switched to the 4-3-3 later in the year. Will we play a 4-2-3-1, and then only be able to chose 2 central midfielders out of Westwood, Delph, Sylla, Bacuna, Gardner & Carruthers (obviously, Gardner & Carruthers will only play a small part anyway). Also, if we were to revert to the 4-3-3 again, would we then play the AMC in a wide role? Would he play as one of the central midfield 3? Or, would he be dropped so that we can play 3 of Westwood, Delph, Sylla, Bacuna, Gardner & Carruthers? Obviously it's a squad game, and Lambert likes to change formation, so we need options. But it does seem that we already have a number of players that COULD play in a 'number 10' role. (Saying that... I still hope we sign one )

Bunnski
An attacking midfielder who can also drop into centre midfield would be ideal. Belhanda type player is exactly the type that would suit us. A hard working flair player that has it all. So hopefully we can find someone with the same attributes as him

villa4europe
thats why the only player id like us to consider in a cash +player deal would be sigurdsson from spurs, think he would fit that AMC role perfectly, can chip in with goals too

VillaChris
Bonkers people don't think we need an attacking midfielder. Sylla-Delph- Westwood did well for us end of last season but is that a midfield that will get us back to the top 8 anytime soon. Where's the goal threat there for a start? mikeyp102
I know people don't like loans, but what about Shaqiri from Bayern on loan with view to a permanent move? A lot of competition at Bayern in his position
