Put a  P90 in it.

That's definitely an option I'm considering. None of my guitars have a P90 as yet and I've always liked them so it's a possibility.

As a side note, I'm also considering making the jump and selling all of my amps and delving into the amp modeling side. Some of the models now sound absolutely stunning (I bought one of the plugins from Neural DSP and the thing sounds amazing).

£1500 for the Neural DSP Quad Cortex. Means I can do away with all of my amps, all of my pedals and I'll have everything I'll ever need all in one box.

Just wondering, how many of you have ever set up your own acoustics?

I've just checked the action on my Martin and its far too high, I'm guessing its the humidity that has caused it, I've messed about with my old Tanglewoods and I've always managed to sort it but given that this guitar cost me £900 I'm reluctant to mess about with it.

Don't even know how you'd go about that. They don't normally have truss rods, do they? So, file down the bridge, or the slots in the nut?

Not that I'd ever attempt any setup or modding on any guitar, I'd probably ruin it. Changing strings is my limit.

Any drummers here got any thoughts regarding BDC (British Drum Company)? They seem on a relentless march towards world domination, and their lineup of gear does look very impressive. I've had a look at the Aviator aluminium snare drum and it seems impeccably engineered. Not cheap mind...

From the graphic novel 'Django, Hand On Fire'.

The story of the young Django Reinhardt.

Reminded me of Guido's hand for a moment!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guidonian_hand

Quote

In Medieval music, the Guidonian hand was a mnemonic device used to assist singers in learning to sight-sing. Some form of the device may have been used by Guido of Arezzo, a medieval music theorist who wrote a number of treatises, including one instructing singers in sightreading. The hand occurs in some manuscripts before Guido's time as a tool to find the semitone; it does not have the depicted form until the 12th century. Sigebertus Gemblacensis in c. 1105–1010 did describe Guido using the joints of the hand to aid in teaching his hexachord. The Guidonian hand is closely linked with Guido's new ideas about how to learn music, including the use of hexachords, and the first known Western use of solfège.

Got my Taylor today, absolutely **** lovely it is, I've gone for the Academy 10, I could have gone for the 10E but it was an extra hundred quid just for the electrics which I would never use (aside for the build in tuner)

Sounds amazing it does, I really need to try and get rid of one or two of my guitars now though.

I'd love to get a resonator but I always feel that it would be more for display and I wouldn't actually end up playing it all that often.

My mate kept on talking about how he wanted to learn guitar and was looking at spending up to £200 on one, I told him he could have my old Tanglewood for £30, the guitar sounds lovely but the bridge is slightly sunk and the action isn't great down on the 12th fret.

Anyways he came round and I showed him a few of the cowboy chords, I was shocked how quickly he picked them up, he was switching between G, D, C, E, Am with no problem in just a few minutes, once his right hand starts to feel more natural and his strumming isn't quite a clunky as it is at the moment he'll be ready to start learning some simple songs

Well, that's true, it's a bit specialist. But it's kind of the last piece in the jigsaw. I already had:

Gibson Sonex, Epiphone Les Paul, Gretsch G2622, Fender Telecaster, Danelectro electric12 string, Fender Mustang bass, Seagull and Epiphone acoustics, Epiphone J200 jumbo, Seagull acoustic 12 string, nylon string Spanish, ukulele, banjo, mandolin and lap steel.

In theory, I can stop now.

Maybe.

What's the seagull like, I've always heard great things about them but have never had the chance to actually sit down and play one.

I'm actually thinking of getting myself a Martin Backpacker just for messing around on, it'd be ideal to have next to me while I'm working or just to noodle about with while sitting back on the couch watching TV or something, they are only a couple of hundred quid but they look weird enough to make me really want one

Well I love mine. It's probably the one I'd save from the house fire in the classic hypothetical dilemma. I've had it since the early 1990s, and it's really 'played in'. The 12 string is pretty damn good, too, but like the resonator, it's a 'special ops weapon', not played too often.

Yeah, Al Murray is part owner. I say "world domination" but I primarily mean the UK really at the moment. The list of artists they have on their roster is growing endlessly, spearheaded by Nicko McBrain who helped develop one of their snare drum lines.

Having seen the aluminium Aviator snare in a music shop I must say the quality looks superb.

They are definitely pretty hot on the marketing side of things - they are very active on social media. I think they are very savvy at raising their profile.

How you getting on with this Moonman, are you using it primarily for slide and what tunings have you been using it in? or are you just playing it like a standard acoustic?

Bit of both. Just messing about with it tbh, but I've alternated between open D bottleneck, and standard tuning. I probably won't do much with it until I write and record a song that would suit it (and then I'll probably bury it in the mix 'cos I'm shit)  :)
