Trump is divisive.  Any semi normal - middle of the road candidate would beat him.

That's why the dems persisting with a clearly declining Biden for so long was confusing. They could have put anyone of 10 candidates up against Trump 5/6 months ago and won comfortably.

Ironically I can't help but wonder if this late switch in candidates will actually help the Democrats. Maybe not, but feels like getting good vibes and positive momentum now is pretty helpful

The whole happy clapping feel good factor is an attempt to cover the stench of the democrats / Biden administration completely lying and covering up the severity of Bidens decline.

If they can make the public forget about Biden, then any "normal" candidate will easily win when it comes to voting.

What stench? Sure, the timing was a bit off, but he's afaik the only president ever to not run for re-election after holding office. He's broken the norm, and the timing seems to have been great when you now look at the last two weeks. Do you think Trump would give up the presidential office due to his mental capacity?

The stench argument is one Fox/MAGA have and are running with as hard as they can because they literally don't want to talk about their policies which are right out of Gilead, and they can't for the life of them find anything to attack Walz/Kamala with that isn't simple name calling. Trump's social media posts are getting more and more deranged and childish by the hour. It's working for the democrats.

The evidence of them speaking suggests Trump is in worse decline than Biden.

If Trump was a tyre, you can sort of feel the air leaving it. Harris and Ealz were very impressive last night

Trump? He's just in charge of a bunch of weirdos. This expression needs to stick.

Biden's decline is over stated. Yes he is old but he is still better than given credit. Saw him perform in Ireland in April 2023, not exactly ancient history!

Besides, delaying his withdrawal has messed up Trump's strategy. Trump spent the entire RNC attacking Biden, and the GOP line was that Biden was too old. Well, now how does that look that Biden is no longer the candidate and Trump is the old man? Clever strategy from the Dems.

Just as a minor aside, there have been half a dozen others, but he's the first for nearly 60 years (the last one was Lyndon Johnson), so your point about it not being the norm is still very fair.

16 months is absolutely ancient history when talking about an elderly person who's in cognitive decline, which he very, very clearly is.

Walz is extremely likeable.

I was just thinking that.

I mean it's all showmanship obviously, but he does just come across as a likeable, every day guy with a bit of humour about him. You'd probably have a great time down the pub with him.

Big contrast to the GOP.

Could have been a genius move this.

The old «who would you rather have a beer with» factor.

Yes he is a dangerous fellow, what with having free school meals in his state and wanting women having the right to have an abortion.

Well there you go. Commie.
