Depends on the bullet and rifle but assuming it's a 223 (media reported AR- style rifle) bullet drop at 150m is pretty negligible. Any decent rifle / round combination will be close to 1 MOA accuracy, which means a 1 inch deviation at 100 yards. All this to say, it's not a long way to hit a target 6 inches wide while prone unless wind is a huge factor. You hear how quickly the shots come - it's not measured shooting, so I'd assume nerves and poor marksmanship are 1 million times more likely than it being a false flag where a 20 year old could hit an ear on purpose at that range and be willing to die in the process.
