Furthermore he has been geeing up the police for an event like this for a long time and now they have been unleashed on the population. I'm not disputing that Donald Trump has been a terrible president, nor that he has specifically encouraged the police to be more violent in both word and policy. But in 2014, when Barack Obama was President, there were protests and riots over the killing of an African American man by police officers, and there have been similar incidents and protests nearly every year since. American police have been racist and violent since long before Vladimir Putin was born, and he wasn't hovering over that officer, whispering in his ear to kneel on another human's neck. I'm not going to lie, every time I see white liberals trying to wrestle this story about the racialised violence that African Americans face from police forces into somehow being about a long-running geopolitical dispute with Russia, I find it very uncomfortable.
chrisp65
FWIW, I think you’re both right. This could easily have happened under anyone’s watch. That it happened on Trump’s watch, with his inability to govern and his skirting along the edge of being openly racist and a rabble rouser, can only make it worse and add to the destabilising of the U.S. So, no Putin hasn’t manufactured this crisis, it’s been running for decades, two hundred years even. Yes, Putin is enjoying this crisis, his interference or even his alleged interference and the distrust and cynicism that causes really couldn’t be playing out much better for him.

Villarocker
Has anyone seen the footage of the supposed store owner defending his property with a sword in hand. He chases people away and they get him down and kick him to death. Defending against police brutality has my full support but looting and destroying innocent lives and livelihoods in inexcusable. Ultimately, Trump is to blame. When that footage came out about what happened to George Floyd he should have pulled rank immediately and had the cop arrested for murder and the other cops arrested for accessory to murder. He should have then called for a full public enquiry into the amount of people being killed or maimed by police brutality in his country.

Cant be bad for Russia surely. Though I don’t believe for a second they’ve directly influenced the current ongoings, as has been said, it’s nothing new over there. Davkaus
Trump didn't start this, but he has fanned the flames in a way I can't imagine any president in living memory doing.
bannedfromHandV
And we saw this happening here didn’t we a few years back and that quickly turned into a seemingly opportune moment to begin vandalising and stealing stuff. Part of me wonders if there’s a chance the looting and vandalism is driven by other forces, potentially state sponsored in order to devalue the initial issue and reasonable protest. Of course Trump is not responsible for racism in America but is responsible for responding to a crisis. He’s faced two major ones this year and has dropped the ball on both. That is the value Putin will be seeing and hence my comment.

Technically, to drop the ball he’d have to make some attempt to catch it. Twice now the ball has hit him in the back of the head whilst he was facing the other way telling people how great he is at catch. 4

The protests began because of a police officer killing a man by kneeling on his neck, and the environment has been inflamed by a 'neighbourhood watch'-style shooting of a black jogger. None of that has anything to do with Vladimir Putin, and I think it's a complete distraction to the issue of racialised violence in America's police departments. That's like saying that the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand was the cause of the First World War.

Other people are paying far too much attention to some thugs being brought to justice by wonderful, patriotic law enforcement officers, and this fake Chinese virus. Only The Donald is focusing on what really matters - his posts being hidden on Twitter. 1

Chindie Posted May 31, 2020 VT Supporter Share Posted May 31, 2020 Mr President, we've got a delicate situation here. We need to be careful to not fan the flames of anger in many communities across the nation... ...When the looting starts, the shooting starts! Trump isn't the ultimate spark here, but he contributed to piling up the wood and his advice on preventing a fire is to throw petrol over it.

His quote about unleashing the White House dogs on protesters is also a racist dog whistle and can only piss people off who feel they have legitimate grievances. It is staggering how shallow his thinking is and yet he is the leader of the country and sets the tone.
