HanoiVillan
Biden is absolutely abysmal. I suppose I would recommend voting for him over Trump, but not with any enthusiasm. He's rank.

sne
US to invade Venezuela? Quote Pompeo says US prepared to take military action in Venezuela Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Wednesday that the US was prepared to take military action to stem the turmoil in Venezuela. “Military action is possible. If that’s what’s required, that’s what the United States will do,” Pompeo said in an interview with Fox Business Network, but added that the US would prefer a peaceful transition of power in the country. Meanwhile, Venezuela braced for protests Wednesday after embattled President Nicolas Maduro and opposition leader Juan Guaidó appealed to their supporters to take to the streets a day after violent clashes left scores injured. Maduro, who remains defiant despite protests calling for his ouster, described Guaidó’s supporters as a “small group” whose plans had failed. On Tuesday, Guaidó called on the armed forces to join the final stage of “Operation Liberty” and remove the socialist president from power. Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday rejected a suggestion by Washington that it had persuaded Maduro not to flee in the face of demonstration, calling the assertion part of an information war. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a TV interview that Maduro was prepared to leave the country Tuesday morning in the face of Guaidó’s call for an uprising, but reversed his plan after the Kremlin intervened. “Washington tried its best to demoralize the Venezuelan army and now used fakes as a part of information war,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told CNN when asked about Pompeo’s comments. Moscow has previously accused the US of trying to foment a coup in Venezuela, a close Russian ally, and of trying to demoralize the military by spreading potentially morale-sinking fake news. National security adviser John Bolton said Tuesday that the opposition has the support of the US and called on Venezuela’s military to back Guaidó and protect the constitution. He named officials who he said had been in secret talks with the opposition leader, including Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López. John Bolton: It would be a 'big mistake' for Maduro to use force against civilians In an apparent bid to divide Maduro’s government, he called on Padrino and others to keep their “commitment” to help remove the president. Bolton said Washington favors a “peaceful transfer of power” but that “all options are on the table,” though he declined to elaborate. In the clashes on Tuesday, a 25-year-old man died and dozens of people were injured by rubber bullets, tear gas and live ammo across the country, according to officials. The nonprofit Venezuelan Observatory of Social Conflict said a man was fatally shot in the chest during a protest in the state of Aragua, according to the Washington Post. An armored vehicle ran into a group of Guaidó supporters as hooded men from one of the pro-government gangs known as colectivos fired live ammunition at protesters, witnesses said. At least 119 people were detained Tuesday across Venezuela, according to Foro Penal, a local group that tracks political detentions, the newspaper reported. https://nypost.com/2019/05/01/pompeo-says-us-prepared-to-take-military-action-in-venezuela/ Surely this would be against international law? peterms
Some news on those tax returns. Quote NYT obtains a decade of Trump's taxes The New York Times obtained printouts from President Trump’s official Internal Revenue Service tax transcripts for the years 1985 to 1994, and found that the president’s businesses lost more than $1 billion: "The numbers show that in 1985, Mr. Trump reported losses of $46.1 million from his core businesses — largely casinos, hotels and retail space in apartment buildings. They continued to lose money every year, totaling $1.17 billion in losses for the decade. In fact, year after year, Mr. Trump appears to have lost more money than nearly any other individual American taxpayer, The Times found when it compared his results with detailed information the I.R.S. compiles on an annual sampling of high-income earners. His core business losses in 1990 and 1991 — more than $250 million each year — were more than double those of the nearest taxpayers in the I.R.S. information for those years. Over all, Mr. Trump lost so much money that he was able to avoid paying income taxes for eight of the 10 years. It is not known whether the I.R.S. later required changes after audits.'
