maqroll
Meanwhile China and Russia have agreed to shadow the US battleships to make sure Trump doesn't do anything stupid. If that isn't a sign of the USA's decline, I'm not sure what is. Actually, I can name many more signs, but w/e. It's also a sobering harbinger of future geopolitical maneuvering; A China-Russia military alliance against the US, with whatever they can get out of NK, Iran, Turkey, and even Pakistan would be daunting. This is normal and happens all the time. When Russian vessels move in waters adjacent to Europe NATO vessels overtly work in relays to do the same thing. Thst doesn't include aircraft and the subs that provide more covert surveillance and collection on unfriendly vessels.

Also increased arms sales and even IP sharing in some defence areas. Started after Putin invaded Ukraine. Edit: to add, the geopolitical rivalry behind this is structural so not dependent on whoever is in the White House. What does change is how the US chooses to address that rivalry. It's no surprise that Trump is swinging back towards a relatively more mainstream FP view because the constraints on his actions are built in to decades of policy making that went before him. What he didn't need to do was call Erdogan to congratulate him on the referendum victory, but it does possibly signal his view of Turkey's future role in the Mid East. StefanAVFC Posted April 19, 2017 VT Supporter Share Posted April 19, 2017 Donald Trump forgets Paul Ryan's name and calls him Ron twice Quote Donald Trump forgot House Speaker Paul Ryan's name during a speech in Wisconsin, twice referring to him as Ron. Mr Trump was speaking about his "Buy American, Hire American" executive order and veered into addressing the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (Nato), the 28-country military alliance which Mr Trump has called "obsolete" in the past. He appeared to make a joke about how Mr Ryan had a good excuse for not being at the speech in the Speaker of the House's home state, because he was "with Nato". “I said, Ron, you’ve got to get these countries to start paying their bills a little bit more,” he said, referring to Mr Ryan but calling him by Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson's name. Mr Trump added, “they’re way, way behind, Ron" regarding other countries' contributions to Nato. Senile old man. Watch the video. Senile.

Popular Post HanoiVillan
Yesterday was Krauthammer Day: Fourteen years of Krauthammer days 'Today is the fourteenth anniversary of the day when Charles Krauthammer announced to the world: "Hans Blix had five months to find weapons. He found nothing. We’ve had five weeks. Come back to me in five months. If we haven’t found any, we will have a credibility problem." It’s now been 168 months since that confident pronouncement – or, put differently, we’ve seen 33.6 Krauthammer Credibility Intervals come, and then go, without any sign of self-assessment, let alone personal acceptance of responsibility for his prominent cheerleading for a war that led to hundreds of thousands of deaths. Still out there opining.' http://crookedtimber.org/2017/04/22/fourteen-years-of-krauthammer-days/

HanoiVillan
15 hours ago, HanoiVillan said: Yesterday was Krauthammer Day And talking as we were of irresponsible warmongers, cop a load of this guy: Lindsey Graham calls for preemptive strike on North Korea Speaking during an interview with NBC News’ Today Show, the Senate Armed Services Committee member said he would support a preemptive strike on Kim Jong-un’s regime regardless of the potential negative effect for adjacent nations like China, South Korea, and Japan. “Would you be for a preemptive strike?” Today Show host Willie Geist asked the South Carolina Republican. "If that's what it would take,” Graham replied resolutely. "It would be terrible but the war would be over here (there), wouldn't be here," Graham continued. "It would be bad for the Korean Peninsula. It would be bad for China. It would be bad for Japan, be bad for South Korea. It would be the end of North Korea. But what it would not do is hit America and the only way it could ever come to America is with a missile." http://www.trunews.com/article/lindsey-graham-calls-for-preemptive-strike-on-north-korea So it 'would be bad' for millions of people (and it would definitely be a war crime for the ages) but hey ho, them's the breaks I guess. The man is a dangerous, irresponsible lunatic.

StefanAVFC Posted April 24, 2017 VT Supporter Share Posted April 24, 2017 Entire U.S. Senate to go to White House for North Korea briefing Quote Top Trump administration officials will hold a rare briefing on Wednesday at the White House for the entire U.S. Senate on the situation in North Korea, senior Senate aides said on Monday. All 100 senators have been asked to the White House for the briefing by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and General Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the aides said. While top administration officials routinely travel to Capitol Hill to address members of Congress on foreign policy and national security matters, it is unusual for the entire 100-member Senate to go to such an event at the White House, and for those four top officials to be involved. U.S. officials have expressed mounting concern over North Korea's nuclear and missile tests, and its threats to attack the United States and its Asian allies. President Donald Trump criticized North Korea's "continued belligerence" and said its actions were destabilizing during a telephone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday, the White House said. The briefing will take place at 3 p.m. EDT. House aides said they were working with the White House to set a similar briefing for members of the House of Representatives. War time?
