HanoiVillan
Scott Pruitt was voted in to run the EPA, a department he repeatedly sued and obviously hates. Look forward to a massive relaxation of environmental regulations, and big increases in pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.

Pretty sad when the VP is sent to Europe to assuage concerns over the president one month into his term.

I am wondering if rank and file republicans would rather see Pence in charge and will be angling for an impeachment before long or if they are loving the cover the Trump distraction is giving them whilst they quietly go about enacting their ideologies. Both, IMO. McConnell is as sleazy as they come, so he'll sit tight as long as the levy holds.

TrentVilla Posted February 19, 2017 Moderator Share Posted February 19, 2017 That 'survey' is as batshit crazy as the press conference, he really does seem like someone aiming to silence the press as part of a totalitarian reign. Question 10 was particularly amusing.
Rodders
This is so disturbing. That rally He is a fascist totalitarian. Honestly can see a civil war beginning by the end of the year. He's whipping up his cultist followers into a frenzy. They believe him 100%. RIP America
Davkaus
It's unbelievable. The sitting president is doing his best to undermine the public's trust of the media, the courts, and the intelligence agencies. Basically anyone who dares question the dear leader. Fingers crossed he doesn't make it to the end of his term.

Well I don't agree. I'm not saying they are identical but there are some similarities in their totalitarian political moves, the way they campaigned, the use of language, the blame culture on immigratiin, the divisive nature and the way they both exploit primal emotions. That isn't to say they are identical obviously or that history will repeat itself. So we'll have to agree to disagree on that one.

Yeah, he doesn't have to be exactly the same for him to be the modern day version. There are so many similarities to 1930's Hitler that he renders Godwin's Law obsolete.

Hitler was responsible for genocide on a scale beyond comprehension. He had an ideology where Jews, disabled people, gays, anyone non-aryan was basically sub-human. He invaded other nations and started a world war. He was supported by a rigid system set up to achieve his aims. A violent tyrant and arguably the worst human being to have ever lived. Trump is a self-regarding twerp. Not the same. Not similar, not at all comparable. All this stuff about being rude to the media, or being rude about opponents, or building a wall, or whatever controversy. It's not like hitler, it's not like nazi Germany. It's like countless other inadequates who have led or sought to lead various nations at various points in history. Puffed up South American or African or Australian or wherever's leaders. Not Hitler.
Chindie Posted February 19, 2017 VT Supporter Share Posted February 19, 2017 There's some similarities with Hitler's methods of gaining popularity and power, but that's basically the populists' playbook since time in memorial. He's too stupid (and frankly, ironically, unpopular) to actually have any real comparison IMO, because the Hitler connotation has the indelible links to the horrors of world war and genocide etc etc that Trump won't get the popular support to get to (even if he or more importantly his puppet master wants it to). Comparing him to Hitler might be actively unhelpful in defying him, because it seems hysterical.
