Speaking of the KKK, it seems the Trump family's involvement with them goes back to 1927. Trump ran an election based on how people feel and that's why he won. Good point. and that article basically says the same thing. He tapped into fear and loathing, and never offered specific policy details. Had they listened to Sanders with an open mind, they'd have understood he was speaking to them the whole time. What would you suggest instead, a raw popular vote poll? I can't help but feel all of the issues in the Cracked article a few pages back are amplified tenfold when pretty much every election would be won by whoever appeals to voters in a few cities. That's arguably better than it basically just coming down to Florida and Ohio every time though. Democracy is kind of hard to implement properly without **** a lot of people over. In truth, the power of rural states in American politics is massively amplified by both the requirement of each state to have two senators, regardless of size, and the order in which states vote during the primary process. I would support a popular vote poll in the presidential race, yes. In terms of the issues in the article, they are fair comment but I can't logically see the benefit in trying to avoid potentially reducing the vote value of a small number of people by actually reducing the vote value of a much larger number of people.

Two things (beyond the KKK rejoicing in Trump's win): if he comes from a racist household that is an interesting and relevant point in his new role, given the deep racial divide in that unfortunate country, and people would rightly want to know whether and to what extent that has had an impact on him; and the theme of allegedly racist lettings policies seems to recur. Did Trump not face action on this? If I were a black american, I would be looking at this very warily. And he probably does covet his neighbour's ox. Wouldn't surprise me at all. A candidate shouldn't be able to win the popular vote and lose an election. We have a similar system in the UK and I can't recall of any election where somebody won the popular vote and lost the GE. As I said in my edit, I'd say exactly the same if Trump lost but won the popular vote. I know and as I've said twice now, I'd say exactly the same if Trump lost but won the popular vote but lost the election. It's a fundamental failure of democracy either way. UKIP voters have zero representation in the UK parliament.
