Always a tricky one to answer and I don’t think I could give a single choice , so rather than favourite I’ll answer with for the unexpected then Myanmar .. it was a country run by the military with a hard nosed reputation , we expected to be relaxing in the hotel in the evenings , reality was it’s got a nightlife that meant getting home pissed at 6am , if Bangkok is your thing then forget BKK head to Myanmar instead you’ll get the same sort of scene but with less chance of being infected with the pox afterwards . That said a few days and you’ve seen everything the place has to offer , so it’s appeal would soon wear off .. for uniqueness then it would have to be North Korea , I mean you won’t get an experience like it anywhere else on the planet ... the feeling that you are taking part in the Trueman show , the surreal atmosphere of going to the Mass games with Kim Jong Un standing a hundred feet away from you being cheered and cheered ... and cheered because nobody wants to be the first one to stop cheering ... and the games itself is arguably the greatest show on earth ... oh and the military parade with thousands of tanks , I’ve never been so happy to throw a shirt away as it was ruined by diesel fumes ... I went in 2012 and again in 2018 ,(with my son ) the progress and change in those 6 years is staggering ... It’s not a place without flaws though ie the lack of Human rights etc Iran would probably win best overall country it’s not at all as you’d expect it to be .. friendly people who basically just want to welcome you , chat with you and share tea , the chance to visit Persepolis and find you are the only people there , the beauty of towns like Isfahan with its stunning mosques and gardens , Tehran for a contrast with a more concrete jungle type feel but overlooked by snow capped mountains In a look back fondly countries then special mentions would go to China, Armenia and Kazakstan but realistically ,with the exception of Slovakia, I think just about every country I’ve been to has something that would allow me to give it a “best of” award of some description

Fantastic idea, 8 (eight) countries in one day! I've been to five of those countries: Austria, France, Germany, Switzerland (just for 12 hours) and Holland. Belgium's one of the countries I most want to visit, mainly for the Tintin museum in Brussels and the main square in Bruges but also for Belgian chocolate and, of course... delicious Belgian beer! I love their fruit beers, especially with cherry juice! I can't remember their name. Maybe Alambique or Kriekboom or something like that. :s I can imagine you finally getting through the border into the 8th country at 11.59pm and quickly opening a just in case, emergency can of beer in order to succeed in this magnificent challenge, just! Phew. Last minute Phileas Fogg style, like in 80 Days Around the World. Edited September 7, 2021 by robby b

il_serpente Posted November 1, 2022 VT Supporter Share Posted November 1, 2022 There were a couple of US politicians in the 90's who bragged about never having been outside the US and not seeing any need to ever do so. Guess which political party. Too easy? Guess which state (almost as easy).

robby b
I'll be turning 50 (fifty) next year and I've been to 24 countries (not including the UK, where I was born) and apart from the USA they're all in Western Europe and Latin America. In chronological order: Austria (when I was 8, I think) France Italy Germany USA Spain Bolivia Chile Peru Switzerland (one day) The Netherlands Argentina Brazil Paraguay (one day) Uruguay Ecuador Colombia Suriname Guyana Venezuela Panama Costa Rica Nicaragua Portugal Since my 20s I've aso dreamed about visiting India and Nepal especially and also south-east Asia and Africa but have just never got round to it, in part because I got so addicted to and obsessed with South America! However it's also because I've been stubbornly trying to achieve an advanced level in Spanish for 16 years now, partly for professional reasons (and am still not quite there, good grief. :s For most of us, foreign languages are just not easy).
