PauloBarnesi
http://www.bbc.co.uk...ngland-20592917 Nazi documents suggest Adolf Hitler planned to make his personal headquarters in Shropshire if he had successfully invaded Britain during World War II. Historians think he considered Shropshire as the ideal base because it was located in the centre of the country with excellent rail and communication links. The historical maps illustrate how the Nazis had earmarked Bridgnorth as a town they wanted to move into as a potential base. Presenter Richie Woodall looks at how Shropshire could have become Hitler's base if he had won the war. BBC Inside Out is broadcast on BBC One in the West Midlands on Monday, 10 December at 19:30 GMT and nationwide on the iPlayer thereafter for seven days. tonyh29
Out of interest , are you allowed to evoke Goodwins law in a thread about Hitler ??
The_Rev
Of course. It's just that it was evoked in post #1 by Paul.
Chindie Posted December 10, 2012 VT Supporter Share Posted December 10, 2012 IIRC Godwins Law has a caveat that the discussion must be unrelated to Hitler/the Nazis.
Risso
I lived there until I was 4 or 5. Would have been interesting with Uncle Adolf at the end of the road.
limpid Posted December 10, 2012 Administrator Share Posted December 10, 2012 Hitler lived in London for a time. The Free French were based at Bewdley during the war.
blandy Posted December 10, 2012 Moderator Share Posted December 10, 2012 Lovely place. I think Hitler would have lowered the tone, though, what with his fascism and anti semitism and warmongering and aryan supremacy nonsense, so it's probably for the best that he didn't get to set up there. veloman
Do you know Bridgnorth Paulo ? There is this God - awful hill out of it towards Wolverhampton called The Hermitage. Well beloved by Midlands cyclists who can climb (so not me !!) Requires 39 X 21. Just in case you take a ride out there. Just out of interest, I believe there is quite well-known, errrmm Massage Parlour just outside Bridgnorth too.
Jimzk5
He must of been mental, all that's in bridgenorth is a sainsburys, and I very much doubt that was built back then

Risso
He had have probably got the M6 toll built a bit sooner as well. Plus he bombed Coventry, so he wasn't all bad.
NurembergVillan Posted December 11, 2012 Moderator Share Posted December 11, 2012 Smart dresser though, and always well presented, even in the most trying of circumstances. True. Would probably still be the only man in Bridgnorth wearing Hugo Boss suits.
NurembergVillan Posted December 11, 2012 Moderator Share Posted December 11, 2012 Also - I'm guessing the link's being presented by former Midlands boxing legend Richie Woodall. When did he start presenting the news?!
PauloBarnesi
Coventry was actually really ruined by the City Council after the war. Before then one of the great medieval cities of Europe. Bridgnorth is quite nice Georgian town iirc?
