DCJonah
He looks stupidly good at that level. Did we let him go too easily?
PaulC
He looks stupidly good at that level. Did we let him go too easily? I think so, technically very good.

PaulC
Maybe in two years time we will find out Just kidding! I think Weimann would score quite a few goals in league 1 actually.
Dr_Pangloss
Never really given a chance here, would have been interesting to see what he would have done. Wouldn't at all be surprised if he makes it to the Premier League in the next 18 months.
DCJonah
If he continues like he has he will. Is Johnson standing out more at that level than Westwood did? Edited April 6, 2015 by DCJonah
Zatman
Westwood played 3 games at that level most of his games in League

PaulC
Watching him yesterday I'm not sure he has the drive to be part of Sherwood's plans. Oh Robinson was very very poor when he came on.
Villan4Life
http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aston-villa-sale-villas-promising-9215660 Aston Villa’s decision to sell promising youngster Daniel Johnson has frustrated Tim Sherwood. Three weeks before the boss arrived at Villa, 22-year-old Johnson was allowed to join Preston North End for just £50,000 - a transfer fee that now looks like a steal. The centre midfielder, who was once seen as one of Villa’s brightest prospects, has bagged eight goals for his new team and his all-round performances have lit up League One. Had Sherwood been in charge just a month earlier, he would have blocked any permanent move and given Johnson the chance to shine. It’s likely that he would have sanctioned a temporary switch to allow the Kingston-born ace the opportunity to flourish - but now it’s Simon Grayson who is seeing the best in him. The regular game time is clearing helping him mature and if Preston are successful in the play-offs Johnson will become a Championship player next term. For two years the youngster was Villa’s U21 captain but despite making the match-day 18 on a number of occasions, he never made a single first-team appearance. Loans at Chesterfield and Oldham earlier this term helped him get a feel for league football then Preston quickly snapped him up when Villa let him leave for good, much to Sherwood’s later surprise. Clearly the midfield man needs to be playing games but if he had stuck around in the Midlands for another six months or so he might just have got that opportunity with the claret and blues. Sherwood is a keen believer in youth and promoting from within. At Tottenham he helped nurture young central midfielders Nabil Bentaleb and Ryan Mason - both of whom are now regulars in the starting XI. He also thinks highly of Gary Gardner and will give him the chance to impress in training ahead of a potential push for a starting role next season. With Tom Cleverley’s long-term future still uncertain Villa are on the hunt for at least one new middle man. Swindon’s Massimo Luongo will be targeted in the summer and is thought to be up the top of Sherwood’s wishlist. Johnson would have had every chance to make an impact in that role had he still been around. Unfortunately for Villa he’s starting to look like one that got away. Jimzk5
When the mail say "made the bench a number of times" I presume they mean "made the bench twice 5 years ago during the houllier injury crisis.
Xela
Where does Sherwood say he is frustrated? Can't see any quotes. Or have the Mail just jumped to conclusion. Edited May 8, 2015 by Xela

sir_gary_cahill
He has extraordinary ability on the ball, he can beat players for fun but he seemed to lack an end product, i think he'll play in the premier league eventually
Xela
Extraordinary? I think Messi has extraordinary ability on the ball. Johnson has proved to be very decent in League 1. Nothing else so far.

kurtsimonw
Funnily enough, I remember watching him in that U21s game at VP against Marseille. He had about 5 1-on-1s and **** them all up.
Seat68
I used to have a season ticket near the dug out and a couple of academy players used to sit a couple of seats down from me, Consistently Johnson was an utter prick every time he sat there. Arsing about throughout the games, never watching them, taking the piss out of supporters in front of him.
