My mind went to Rob ‘E’ for Robbie Earle, but the other Rob is Rob M so that doesn’t work. Man, I’ll do anything to avoid doing some work.

maqroll
Not many people mention Ian Crocker, but he's always been one of the best, IMO. Straightforward, no bad poetry like Drury or backslapping forced banter like John Champion.

gilbertoAVFC
Will keep saying it. Peter Drury is a shocking appointment by Sky. Utterly ruins the game for me. So so grating.

Annoyman
yeah Drury is way too over the top and pretentious, he needs the classic PES/dodgy international feed pairing with Jim Beglin's incredibly tame warm bath truisms to balance him out. Can't be doing with him alongside Neville and Carragher's spittle flying everywhere Feels like a lot of the slightly younger generation of commentators coming through have knocked the overwrought Mowbray/Drury type stuff on the head a bit and are a bit more straightforward in their style, which I am extremely here for Elsewhere, Wrighty's retiring from MOTD and I'm gonna say it: he's one of the good ones and I'll be sorry to see him go
KevinRichardsonsMoustache
I think the co commentators need to be sent on courses to understand modern football. From Keown talking about childrearing to the word removed today on the Brentford game who spent most of the match with Brentford’s proverbial c*ck in his mouth. Fair enough, I suppose, we can keep going under the radar while the geordies almost ‘conquer’ Europe by crashing out
Annoyman
Turns out that was former Wales international David Phillips. It added to the purgatorial nature of most of the game effectively I guess? May we never hear his voice again.

You've never heard of former Wales International David Phillips? He was quite a mainstay of the 1980s and 90s game. I've known about him since I was about 10. Whenever I catch up with football fan friends of a similar age over a beer it will never be long before conversation turns to the fact that David Owen Phillips (born 29 July 1963) is a Welsh football coach, commentator and former player. As a player he was a midfielder and played in the Premier League for both Norwich City and Nottingham Forest. He also had lengthy spells in the top flight for both Manchester City and Coventry City as well as playing in the Football League for Huddersfield Town and Lincoln City. He retired in 2001 with non-league club Stevenage Borough. During his career he was capped 62 times by Wales, scoring twice. [no Brentford connection. 100 appearances for Cov but presumably he's just the kind of very dull, pedantic pundit that fans of both sides get equally mad at; he was pretty quick on the draw saying Mee should go off after that tackle] 1

Hornso
I lost count of the amount of times Konsa got called Diego Carlos by the commentator today. And yes, I thought Welsh great David Phillips was a prat but at least he called it a red card. Edited December 17, 2023 by Hornso
