briny_ear
Deciding Villa's goal of the season this year is going to be herd! Ha ha, well at least it will give him something to do. More likely he'll use the "whichever player this door falls on wins goal of the year" method
Condimentalist
For all of tonight's exuberance we're not safe yet, but we can go to Norwich in good spirits and if we win there I think we can start looking forward to next season.
Designer1 Posted April 29, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted April 29, 2013 I see us beating Sunderland tonight. The DiCanio "revival" was a win in a local derby against Newcastle, a completely woeful Newcastle and a win against an "on the beach" Everton. One side is woeful, the other have had nothing to play for for weeks. We have home advantage, I see us winning, it's the first time they'll come up against a team that actually cares
Tomaszk
Players need to be given a real good rile up in training tomorrow. Remember the results post-Anfield. If we think we'll saunter to Norwich and get a win, we'll get done, I think the Xmas results after Liverpool win will hopefully be in the back of the players minds anyway, but it's up to Lambert to make sure we carry on this form. What a win.
PaulC
I hope the Chelsea result is not in the back of their minds. They should now be brimming with confidence knowing a win at Norwich virtually guarantees them safety.
jamdog
Before that Spurs equaliser we were heading towards odds-on for relegation. Now after Newcastle's meltdown and tonight we're 9-1, in other words 89% chance of staying up. How quickly things change.

villa-revolution
The good news now is that having wiped away the nightmare goal difference deficit, like all the other strugglers just below & above us, we are now only 1 win away from safety, instead of needing a win & a draw. That Goal Difference nightmare has been a millstone around our neck that has tormented us since that awful xmas period. Tonights result was worth 7 pts, no question. Plus we have really cranked up the pressure on Wigan now, plus Sunderland, Newcastle & Norwich know they need to get at least one more result out of their last 3 games & still with some tough fixtures to play. In a worst case scenario we should at least now go to the last game of the season to decide our fate. ( Still a scary prospect) but hopefully it won't come to that! Bottom line though is that this has been a monumental victory for us tonight.
Ponky
Ideal scenario would be 6 points from the next 2 games then lie down against Wigan to relegate Newcastle again :-) Edited April 30, 2013 by Ponky

rodigan
brilliant brilliant result, watched with my 11 year old son at 4am in Hong Kong this morning.... now, to draw breath and see where we actually are... three to go for all of us bar wigan.... we need to end up ahead of one team out of wigan, newcastle, sunderland, norwich, southampton and perhaps stoke and fulham five ahead of wigan who have a game in hand..., but have to play five games between 4th and 18th may, when everyone else has three to play... level on points with sunderland and newcastle, both of whom have been tonked at the weekend.... sunderland's remaining games are stoke, southampton and spurs on the last day... all of these teams are still playing for something... sessegnon, their best player in the last three games is banned... newcastles last three games are west ham (at upton park - where wet spam are considerably stronger than away), QPR and arsenal on the last day, who will almost certainly still be competing for a champions league spot... the team appears to be in open revolt, and the frenchies are living up to the surender monkey reputations... one behind norwich, who have a six pointer against us at the weekend... norwich have us, west brom and a final day trip to man city.... they have been shocking since the start of the year, and bar a 2-1 win over reading a couple of weeks ago, have only won one other game this year... plenty of draws have kept their survival hopes alive... in my opinion, its simple, a win on saturday, and we'll be fine.... a draw or loss on saturday, and it'll squeaky bum time for all... playing a team like norwich on saturday is the perfect game for us, and gives a chance to get the result and go into the chelsea game relaxed and able to turn on the class in front of the holte end without the crippling pressure that the team seems to have been performing under for much of the season.... and to the perception that there has been no improvement under lambert, my opinion is that the improvement is clear to see.... turning the villa performances around has been like turning an ocean liner around - you can't just turn it instantly, its a gradual process, but once its turned and a losing mentality becomes one that believes it can win against anyone that we face, i think we're off to the races.... look at the players that have come of age this season - lowton, benteke, guzan, westwood, weimann, baker, delph.... even those i've doubted (being polite here) have looked better playing with a bit of confidence - vlaar, KEA, bennett (who i thought was excellent last night), sylla gabby's been great of late... squad players have all done a job at some point this season - zoggy, bent, holman, bannan, clark, bowery i think we are in a good position right now, and i think that the 15 - 20m that randy has made available in each off-season is going to be very well spent to strengthen a credible squad....
rodigan
and don't forget the importance of the 12th man.... i'd rather be playing in front of our fans than any of the fans in the teams around us.... the support sounded amazing last night!!! VillaCas
Not being selective at all. Your focusing on parts of the season rather than the whole. At the moment we haven't been better than last season and the current table proves that. But keep trying VillaCas. Yeah right, last night was no better than the pigswill served up by McLeish shower of shit. Obviously no improvement at all!!! Westwood, Lowton, Bennett, Benteke and Lambert all outstanding. Still mooning over Berbatov, Adam and Redknapp??
