markavfc40
Whilst this is an exciting appointment it is still a very risky one. I don't think the fact that he hasn't managed above a level of football equivalent to league one can be totally ignored. He may have great experience as a player but in managerial terms he has very little and the step up from where he is now to managing a Premier League club, and one rightfully with expectations of finishing as one of the top half dozen teams in the country, is a huge step up. Apart from him managing in a foreign country and being a big name from his playing days in terms of experience and the level he has managed at he is no less a gamble than having gone for the likes of Lee Clark, Eddie Howe, Gus Poyet. I am certainly not against this appointment though and I am happy we appear to be thinking outside of the box in terms of a manager having to have Premier League experience. Randy has gone down that route twice and it has been a disaster. I do think there were much stronger gettable alternatives to Ole and there is no doubting there is a certain amount of the unknown as to what he will bring to us, the kind of players he will go for and how he will mould us as a team. That in itself makes this appointment an exciting one though and that is something we have lacked at VP for too long. I can also see the media and other fans viewing us in a more positive light than we have been over the last couple of years. At the very least this appointment should initially bring a buzz back to Villa Park and hopefully we can gain some forward momentum from that and if that is the case this appointment could hopefully be the start of something pretty special. FamousHolteUnion
Just hope fans look at his Molde team and dont expect an instant success in first month or two. In there first month together they got just one point then went on a run and wont 21 games in a 35 game season. Needs to be given some time as this is an absolute sea-change in philosophy to last season, some players will be shite at first, absolute shite and hopefully they will catch on after a little while. IMO the club knows this, hence why it's being done within a week of the season ending. He will need an entire preseason to sort out scouting (hopefully we can piggyback Utd's as players they scout abroad that they dont think are good enough for them MAY be good enough for us), backroom team etc. And thats before the players even come back for training and re-coaching. tl;dr : Give him time. He will need it. Will be a success though (imo)

"Rbnett: Solskjaer consult enough with Sir Alex. Either way, Aston Villa a big club in England. John Carew says this to the paper: - It would be a fantastic job for Ole Gunnar to get. Villa is among the six, seven biggest clubs in England. They have great fans and a fantastic stadium. Solskjaer is a big name in England. He also has the mentality and the respect from the players he needs to succeed" Nice one!

Villarocker
I think it is a stroke of genius if Randy gets Solskjaer in. We all know he has very little management experience at the top level of football but he did manage the Man Utd reserves for a while and will have worked with a lot of top quality players in his time in football. He will know how to find a supply line to strikers and he will also know how to get the ball in the back of the net! OGS would see coming to Villa has a stepping stone to bigger things, probably Utd, so he will be a driven man and not one on the lookout for a pay day. If he succeeds then he puts himself in line to replace Fergie so he is going to do all he can to make his club successful and that can only be good for the Villa if he joins us. If he does leave us in a good position then at least we will be a better proposition for anyone who would replace him! Also, the players at Villa will have grown up watching him as a player and will have a lot of respect for him for what he has achieved in the game, which is a lot more than that boring fella we just got rid of! My only worry? The dreaded letter from SAF! :winkold:

Agreed. It is the 'unknown' element of this that makes it exciting. His track record, whilst excellent with FC Molde - is probably the equivalent of winning the 2nd tier in Scotland. I actually think his best chance of success - is to start from scratch. Only Bent and Given from the cuurent squad I would sad to see to leave. Thats some task for a young manager. I still have a hunch there may be a late twist in the tale - !

kristian1
Some nice quotes from John Carew in Norwegian newspapers today: It would be a fantastic job for Ole Gunnar to get. Eames
From that translated sitey thing - we have agreed to fund his buy out clause. - Carew says its a good move and that we are a big club. They seem sad to lose him but happy for him. Its a challenge. I'm loving being a Villa fan for the first time in months. YAY!!!!!!
VillaForever1970
I hope Villa fans don't live up to our reputation. Skeptical or not support our new manager, he needs time from the owner and from the fans. Terrible first season, still needs time. It's clear Lerner wants someone who will be around for years and build his own team. Get the bad eggs out earlier doors, or tell them who's boss will be a big first step! Guest
But what can this mean?: "Not good to know - the club meets Ole Gunnar clause to protrude from Molde.":) Probably just that AV have asked how much it would cost in compensation, Molde have told us, and we've not baulked at it.
