villaajax
I'm intrigued about OGS but I have my doubts. I hope he proves me wrong! (assuming we get him)
FamousHolteUnion
What's Laursen actually doing at the moment anyway? Obviously a magnificent player but I think he needs more experience outside Villa first. Getting his coaching badges whilst managing in the Danish 3rd tier. JulieB
I know Julie. It is because I want this appointment to happen over the likes of Martinez or Lambert. I would be massively dissappointed if it didn't! Well if player signings are anything to go by.... then I fully expect the press to be reporting that Liverpool have turned their attention to OGS about mid morning. It's happens everytime. IIRC didn't Everton make a ast ditch bid for Milner supposedly the morning of the day he actually signed. If MM, Gazton, TT etc have spoken then it will be OGS I'm sure. CI - I think everyone thinks OGS is somewhat of a gamble... as with any appointment, however none of us would get out of bed if we weren't prepared to ever take risks. Jarpie
Why are people acting like this is a done deal? I would be happy if it is, yet there is no concrete evidence that it's done and dusted. It could all fall through. Here's hoping it goes smoothly and he signs the dotted line today. Exactly, you never know how things turn out and I'm not celebrating before it's official. ciggiesnbeer
Morning all. Looks like we are going into meltdown today then.. Hope so. Sure would be nice to have Villa at the center of something exciting for a change.
JulieB
Did anyone else post this yesterday - Paul Brown @pdbrown77 ( Villa's website designer) I said: "Would you like to be Villa manager one day?" Martin Laursen replied: "You don't need to ask that Paul. It would be a dream." #AVFC Why would OGS want Laursen though?.......... He works with two successful English coaches out in Norway, who'll be coming with him I've no doubt. Unless he would be drafted in to work on our defence & sorting out the shambles at corners & free-kicks et al.
Harry
Interesting appointment if it comes off. If it does it shows a bold and innovative approach by the club with a view to really building something. If you get the right young manager in and OGS looks like he could fit the bill we will get the very best out of our up and coming players, I suspect the expensive journeyman will be moved on and we will look at recruiting cheaper and probably better foreign players. Money will, I'm sure, be available but the approach outlined above is precisely what RL wants. A younger, better and cheaper team that brings in the fans, That does not need to cost the earth. I doubt OGS's very first question in an interview would be 'what's my transfer budget?' unlike probably all the more established managers.
Mantis
**** it, get Laursen back in the team. He'd probably still be better than the two pissheads.
fightoffyour Posted May 18, 2012 VT Supporter Share Posted May 18, 2012 I decided to take the advice from a few off here yesterday and do some research/watch the video etc, and whilst my disappointment / nervousness around OGS has not totally gone, I'm a lot more comfortable/positive about the decision now. He seems to have a vision & philosophy that we could really benefit from. I wanted a big name, bit reality says thats not happening anytime soon. I'm happy to take OGS over a Martinez, lambert, Rodgers & I'm delighted we are not just going down the old jobs for boys route - Curbs / McCarthy / Bruce etc. So overall, happy, excited and lets hope he signs on the dotted line and we move forward in harmony this season. Now that is a ringing endorsement! This (probable) appointment must have more approval than MON now!

wiggyrichard
Excited by this appointment. Seems like he sets his teams up to play how pretty much 99% of us want us to play. What i will say, is that with an appointment like this, its not going to happen over night and it may well take 2 seasons for him to get us to where he wants us to be. I just hope us fans and the board give him the time to molde ( 8) ) this squad and make it his own. The revolution begins...bright future ahead. Bazdavies79
After Molde OGS should be cutting his teeth at a championship club IMO. There are a few better candidates out there who I'm sure would be interested in the job. It's a gamble, it might pay off.
Valhalla
Oh yeah, and thank you very much Trees if this comes off. A lot of us might be making a lot of money out of this. As should this website I hope , what with all these VT members sharing the new found wealth..... Socialist.
KSV
This is very interesting. It certainly has provided alot of spark to the forums. Ive seen all the videos etc.. i am still a bit concerned about his lack of experience.. winning the Norwegian League is even similar to McLeish winning the Scottish League. Although if the feel good factor is back at the ground.. and a fresh young manager who wants to play the right way... im all for it.. and i wish him the best of luck. Just remember to be patient with him.... Be interesting to see a few years down the track and re read this thread!

Big_John_10
As a player, a coach and his short spell as manager he has a winning mentality. He got his coaching badges and learnt the world of management at one of the best clubs in the world under one of the best managers of all time. 11 years ago he scored the winning goal in a champions league final. Players will respect him, players will want to play for him. I could never get behind houllier and Mcleish fully as I felt long term both of them would do nothing. This is the kind of appointment that I can be patient with, that I can enjoy the ride with.
