ahamaad
NOTW links us with right back Andy Griffin. Bring back Doug (joke) I'd stop beleiving after the first words TBH.
Condimentalist
I think what he actually said was that he'd be looking for longer term signings to improve the team but wasn't worried about getting players in to bolster the squad ion short term deals if he had to. PauloBarnesi
I think that we will see one ‘name’, and then players like Richard Stearman, Gareth Bale; young British players. But then again what do any of us know?!
SoccerHQ
Bale scored another cracking free-kick yesterday. only 17 though so probably better to let him develop a bit longer at Saints tbh.
ianrobo1
arsenal apparently are looking at him, but if he is the quality we suspect he is then why not develop at villa ???
PauloBarnesi
If he looks at the example of Theo and other British players in Arsenal youth team who never made there, he won’t want to join Arsenal.
ianrobo1
that is correct PB, but once a team like arsenal calls and offers big money it is so difficult to turn them down
paddy
Bale would cost more than we're willing to pay I'm sure. He's got a massive reputation at the moment so will cost about £6m I reckon, being linked with the big clubs trebles your value. Not like he's a hidden talent is it? OutByEaster? Posted December 3, 2006 Moderator Share Posted December 3, 2006 Do you think fees will rocket with the huge additional TV revenue coming in ? I think we might see the likes of Bale going for £10-15 million. When clubs like Reading and Wigan are guaranteed £40million in TV revenue, £6m for a player isn't a lot of money ! will87
mourinho apparently looking for a new right-back in January, if this is the case then he'd surely make one of either ferreira or geremi available - I'd be in there like a shot, there both vast improvements over hughes. ianrobo1
the sky money will change a lot of things OBE, wages for example we kept under check for a few seasons for example. Any club who increases ticket prices for example deserves total contempt, including Villa.

So an atteacking player like Walcott goes for £5 million; how come he would cost £6 million. I think he’s worth £4m max, and then addons; such as Wales making the world cup
Condimentalist
So an atteacking player like Walcott goes for £5 million  That might have been the upfront payment but i'm pretty sure the overall figure for Walcott is around £12million
PauloBarnesi
Yep, but its alot of add ons, etc, etc...
bickster Posted December 3, 2006 Moderator Share Posted December 3, 2006 It was the same when Everton sold Jeffers to the Arse, the actual fee was only £1mil - the rest of the supposed £7-8mil fee was addons, don't think even triggered a single clause either
PaulT
Well it's now only four weeks to the start of the transfer window. I believe MON and RL have agreed who they will be going for and I expect activity early in the window period. Fwiw I reckon: In: Probable: James Milner Possibles: Robbie Keane, Sean Maloney, Luis Boa Morte, Luke Young Long Shot: Shaun Wright Phillips Out: Probable: Patrik Berger Possibles: Lee Hendrie, Eric Djemba x 2, Milan Baros,

Gavin@villatalk
Loved to see SWP at VP but we'd be behide Arsenal and Man City for him. If Arsenal dont sign him that would leave us and Man City - he may opted to go back to the side he knows and has played for. Hope im wrong though
Rocafella
The good thing about SWP is that he will consult with his father before making a move; and Ian Wright would make him think twice, and City isn't the club for him. Going back to a club is always humiliating.
Gavin@villatalk
true.... but i can see Ian Wright say that about Villa (that its a step back) SWP will go to Arsenal
