BOF Posted May 15, 2012 Moderator Share Posted May 15, 2012 Stuart Taylor expected to be a bit part player though. So his season was always going to play out that way. I imagine Milner went there expecting at least to play a bigger role than he did. Which is just funny
villa4europe
i know but standing dead centre on the stage last night over mancini's shoulder knowing that he hasnt played a single minute and didnt even make the bench in 95% of the games, thats got to be a little strange? i like the pictures of kompany on the piss with ricky hatton and liam gallagher, i saw johnny marr tweeting that he was with them too, that would be amazing

theunderstudy
Kompany, Zabaleta, Aguero, Hart and Richards are the few players I have goodwill towards, Kompany is a class act. Tevez, Barry, De Jong, Lescott, Balotelli, Nasri can all **** off though. Can't stand any of them.
BOF Posted May 15, 2012 Moderator Share Posted May 15, 2012 I don't mind the homegrowns. It's hard to begrudge Micah Richards. It's all the more remarkable that he was good enough to stay in a side that had untold millions to replace him with.

Well that is debatable really, I think they were just smart enough to realise that they needed to retain some English and/or local players, they couldn't replace everyone. While I think Richards is a more than decent player I don't think he is of the same standard as the majority of their squad.
Voinjama
Before 2011 I never rated Richards, just thought he was an athlete who played football, bit like Vassell. But having all those world class players around him has improved his game, and now he is quality.

You have to play 10 games to get a medal. Pantilimon, Hargreaves, Pizarro etc all didn't get one
TheSufferingVilla
Milners body language during the trophy ceremony was making me cringe. He was so awkward, because he knows he didnt contribute that much. What are you talking about? This season in the League he played 26 games scored 3 goals and provided 5 assists. Voinjama
Just checked, not sure about the 5 assists. But he made 17 starts this season which is admittedly more then I thought. But take Milner out of the equation and they still win the league, Hart, Lescott, Kompany, Richards, Silva, Aguero, Dzeko, Barry, Toure, Kolorov, Zalayeta, Balotelli and even Tevez all contributed more then he did. He should be happy he has a league winners medal and go and find a team where he is a key member rather then a bit part player. A team like Arsenal will suit him better. VILLAFC2000
I heard a stat that the United starting team on Sunday cost more than Citys starting lineup is this true? Any one know?
The_Rev
De Gea Evra Jones Ferdinand Evans Giggs Carrick Young Scholes Valencia Rooney Hart Kompany Zabaleta Lescott Clichy Barry Nasri Silva Y Toure Aguero Tevez Those are the teams. Trying to find a consensus on the exact transfer fees of everybody is a chore I dont wish to undertake at this hour. The current assertion from United fans that City only won because they spent lots of money is priceless though. Manchester United have been incredibly successful for the past twenty years because they have spent as much (if not more) than anybody over the past twenty years, both in transfer fees and wages. Shit, they couldnt even find a spot on the bench for their £31m record signing in the Champions League final last season. He'd just won the golden boot and they were allowed name seven substitutes so if we are debating who has the biggest embarrassment of riches... Voinjama
At first glance the United line up has 3 players from the youth team. Evans, Scholes and Giggs, and so they would of cost nothing. So that stat is probably true. But I can not be bothered to find all the transfer costs of the other 19 players.
coda
Teams that have outspent Manyoo (Blackburn, Chelsea, Citeh) have went on to win the title. I'm sure there's a lot wrong with that statement but meh.
Chindie Posted May 15, 2012 VT Supporter Share Posted May 15, 2012 On wiki values Manchester United - £143.6 - 148.6 Manchester City - £215.05 - 215.95 Although the Citeh ones are slightly problematic since a couple of the biggies were undisclosed and the closest 'accepted' values are most likely wrong (Silva is clocked at £30m but nobody seems keen to say for sure and Tevez was rumoured to be £47m but that figure's been denied). However given the difference, I think it's fair to say Citeh's team cost more. The argument is, as the Rev says, silly as all hell though - every team buys the title. And Manchester United have used finicial advantage for donkeys years. I have more sympathy for the argument that Citeh are a particularly poor example of money from nothing, like Chelsea, and both have made a mockery of the money in the game. But hey, not a lot you can do about it.
MrDuck
I heard a stat that the United starting team on Sunday cost more than Citys starting lineup is this true? Any one know? I think this related to the recent city v utd game, which was when fergie said city had bought the title - figures in the press were that city's 11 cost 161 mill and utd's cost 169 mill. Papillon
The argument is, as the Rev says, silly as all hell though - every team buys the title. And Manchester United have used finicial advantage for donkeys years. 1) We do not have a draft system, this is not the NHL, this is not socialism. So stop bitching about the financial powers of teams like United, whom have created all their fortune through results. We all know this is bitterness since we are not in the same position. 2) Comparing United with City and Chelsea is extremely ignorant in my opinion. Man Utd for the most part have created all their fortune through own revenue, whilst Chelsea and Man City have chunked in millions. What are they supposed to do? Spend as much as Norwich and stick the rest of their profits in sovereign bonds indefinetely? Spending money you have is way within limits if you ask me. Since we don't have a draft or a wage cap (which I think should have been in place by the way!), you cannot fault teams for spending money. We can however fault teams like City ruining the sport and competition for everyone else through their spending which has got nothing to do with revenue through efforts. So what is "buying the title" really? Everyone buys players within their means. United have spent a lot of money, but they have also gotten results before the late 90s. City were on the brink of relegation before Thaksin purchased them and then the oilrats took over. I think blaming United is mostly down to bitterness, whilst blaming City is 100% accurate. Peever
Manchester City, in the third year since Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi's ruling family bought the club and began to pour in money to acquire a team capable of winning the Premier League, lost £197m, the greatest financial loss in the history of football.
