Morpheus
The people on here who are stating that we won't go down probably will have very sore fingers by the time the season ends. If we get a few injuries to our key players then we don't have the squad to keep us up.
Jimzk5
i think relegation last season was more a serious threat than it is this season, and that was with a better squad. were it not for that last minute winner v west ham, its quite concevable we would be playing doncaster on wednesday rather than qpr. for us to go down this season we would have to get less than 10 points from the last 16 games, as i reckon 35 points will be the safety target this year. next 8 games i expect us to reach the safety target remaining fixtures QPR - win Newcastle - draw Man city - loss Wigan - draw Blackburn - draw Fulham - draw Bolton - win Arsenal - loss Chelsea - loss

switters
Our home record must be one of the worst in the league But we also have the third best away record in the league :winkold: Joint 7th. Only one team has lost fewer away games (Man Utd), but we've drawn a lot. With neat symmetry, we are joint 7th worst at home.

Whilst the points and table position would be the same, I suspect every manager would prefer to sacrifice a decent away record for better home results. jackbauer24
The team is too good to go down. The manager is too bad to stay up. = Scraping through this season but if McLeish carries on then next season it will almost certainly be relegation. Any team with Hutton is in trouble! And when we have the mini-clearout in the summer we'll replace them with more mediocre players. And we all know Bent will be off soon. This season we're going to scrape to 12th-15th, next season we are in big trouble unless there is change at the top (and arguably that could mean Boardroom level too)

jackbauer24
The team is too good to go down. Absolute drivel This team is easily capable of being sucked in I disagree. The team on PAPER is far too good to go down. Any team boasting a spine of Given, Dunne, Ireland, Bent should be too good to go down. I didn't say we wouldn't however - I just think at the moment it's unlikely. The manager is capable of making any team get sucked into it. But I don't think that will happen this year. But I'm worried very much if he's given another season. However, maybe your simple 'drivel' comment is so awe inspiringly well thought out that my argument holds no water...! Whether you agree or disagree with your opinion it is at least reasoned and balanced. FWIW i don't think we will go down but that's not an attempt to defend either the manager or the board. However I do feel the finger of blame should be pointed at the board and in particular at the current CEO.
briny_ear
For Villa to be relegated this season, SEVEN out of the following nine clubs would need to overtake us in the 16 games remaining: Fulham, Swansea, Everton, Baggies, QPR, Bolton, Blackburn, Wolves, Wigan. For Blackburn or Wolves to overhaul us they would need to make up a nine point deficit in those 16 games. It's obviously not impossible but there is very little in our present situation that should lead anyone to say it is likely or could "easily" happen. This thread is ludicrous. As I've already said once, it's not like last season where we really were teetering on the brink of relegation, even as late as the end of March. jim
I don't think we will go down but we could very easily get sucked into the dogfight with a couple of poor results. Look at SHA last season, not many people thought they would go down but we all now what happened there.

flamingsombrero
I think we are pretty much fine now for this season. The one thing I would say is that we MUST be clear and safe with 5 or so games to spare because this team does not have the fight or backbone to go into a high pressure scrap to the finish.
