drat01
Imagine a white graduate with personal leanings to the political left being told by a Tory MP to "go and work for black socialist, you don't do the 'white thing'". Trying to link political support to racial solidarity seems pretty stupid to me, but for the sheer point and laugh factor she's priceless! Very Happy So a Tory political graduate asks Abbott for a job in public and when (and I am thinking that the whole conversation is not exactly reported here) Abbott says no, the grad then conveniently runs to the most radical right wing rag and reports her "outrage". While Abbott has many many faults, the cynic is me can't help feel that opportunistic setup here was more the order of the day. But at least the frothing mouth brigade will be able to have another anti_labour rant while eating their Corn Flakes.

Very Happy So a Tory political graduate asks Abbott for a job in public and when (and I am thinking that the whole conversation is not exactly reported here) Abbott says no, the grad then conveniently runs to the most radical right wing rag and reports her "outrage". It's a fair point that Abbott could have said "no, I don't think your political beliefs are in tune with working for a Labour MP", but instead she had to do it in a racist fashion. Because she's a racist. While Abbott has many many faults, the cynic is me can't help feel that opportunistic setup here was more the order of the day. There would have been nothing to report if Abbott hadn't made racist comments. Who's fault is that, the Daily Fail or the racist MP? Do you think that she should now be sacked due to her repeated racist statements? But at least the frothing mouth brigade will be able to have another anti_labour rant while eating their Corn Flakes. Reverse the situation to "white Tory MP being a racist twunt" and you'd have been shouting it from the roof tops with glee.
drat01
The Tory clamour for "sacking" is a very interesting one, especially with the VT Tory supporters reluctance to hold similar views especially when one of their "own" is brought to task. Sacked from what exactly? As said, I do not believe for 1 minute that this story is nothing more than a politically motivated reworded view of what happened. Abbott is a fool at many times, along with a lot in the political world, but if you are talking about her being "sacked" from being a MP, how exactly could that happen and to do that you have to surely have cast iron evidence. Abbott is very much on the Tory party "List" for people to attack. That is not defending her or her words but as said when the fairly obviously setup story occurs you have to wonder really if that is way of discrediting her or isolating her views? I look forward to your outrage when Clarkson or some Tory makes a Racist or Xenaphobic statement though

chrisp65
I'd imagine the tory machine would prefer to see Abbott promoted and getting far far more air time. Similarly, I'm sure Labour pr people would like to see far more of John Redwood and Rees 1955 Mogg.

privateer
Decided not to turn up for This Week That's probably a sensible, if craven, decision on her part. Andrew Neil would have alternately clowned and monstered her while Portillo sat there grinning again. A real shame, I saw the ambush last time and was howling with laughter at her discomfiture and was looking forward to watching her getting annihilated again. Chindie Posted January 26, 2012 VT Supporter Share Posted January 26, 2012 Still absent. Snigger. At this rate she'll never be able to come back... I can't decide if that's This Week's gain or loss.
snowychap
Still absent. Snigger. At this rate she'll never be able to come back... I can't decide if that's This Week's gain or loss. She was on Newsnight having a spat with the also rather horrid Nadine Dorries (I may have been too kind to Dorries there - I'm probably also being too generous to Abbott).
