maqroll
Razor sharp intellect, and a very eloquent and fearless critic of religious fanaticism, and stupidity in general. I'll miss seeing him on TV making people squirm in their seats, lol.
Rodders
very sad. Very engaging in that magnetic style of his that draws you in whether you agreed with him or not, always provoked thought. Shall endeavor to read God is not Great as a mark of remembrance!

mjmooney Posted December 16, 2011 VT Supporter Share Posted December 16, 2011 Liked a drink. Sold out to the right wing. Flew the flag for atheism. Two out of three ain't bad. :winkold: At least we and the god squad can agree on one thing - he isn't in heaven right now.
flamingsombrero
For a second in my head I was thinking of Peter Hitchens the Daily Mail columnist and was utterly baffled by the outpouring of respect. It all makes sense now. RIP

It all makes sense now. RIPHis brother. Peter is ironically a former atheist who is now a godbotherer.
Bazdavies79
An intellectual apparently, but he supported a Bush foreign policy that led to the deaths of millions. That doesn't seem very clever at this point in time.
Paddywhack
Ricky Gervais is having a twitter war at the moment, with somebody who tweeted 'Thank god for killing Christopher Hitchens'. Have to laugh. Some people are on a different planet
Brumerican
#GodIsNotGreat has been removed as a twitter trend apparently, due to threats of violence from religious circles, thus vindicating the very purpose of the book !
PauloBarnesi
Sold out to the right wing. Claimed he was still a marxist at heart!
TheDrums
His interview with Paxman was a great interview. I sat and watched it on the BBC News channel at about 5am during the summer. In all honesty I'd never really went out of my way to hear his views before then.
maqroll
An intellectual apparently, but he supported a Bush foreign policy that led to the deaths of millions. That doesn't seem very clever at this point in time. He did come out and admit he was wrong...in fact, the last several years of his life, he seemed to be making a real break with right wing ideology. Which you think would be hard to do for a guy in his 50's and 60's...
kidlewis
The guy really was **** awesome at debating. I think if all 525 MPs were on one side of the HoC and he was on the other on his own, he'd still kick all their asses.

Chindie Posted December 16, 2011 VT Supporter Share Posted December 16, 2011 A great loss. He could argue with intensity and daming power. I never really agreed with him politically, particularly when he decided he was a neo-con, but I found a great respect for him when he placed his thoughts on the line and actually went on to be waterboarded, an experience that was enough to change his views. I'll have a extra pint for a great man when I'm next in a bar, and maybe eye a packet of fags for a moment.
