tonyh29
You dont need to use base64 or machine code, anyone can do it. apart from you :winkold: ps i didn't say you had to use , but you do need an understanding of it in order to work it out
mjmooney Posted December 1, 2011 Author VT Supporter Share Posted December 1, 2011 Perhaps this quote from the press release may throw some light on the matter :- "The challenge has six parts, each containing three puzzles, and all leading to a single answer which takes the form of a nine-letter word with a mathematical connection." Rather than brute-forcing anything (which would in any case make you ineligable for the prize as illegal hackers are specifically excluded) you could just work your way through a short-list of 9 letter words with mathematical connections - there can't be that many of them :-) In any case the "code" presented looks pretty straight forward, but I don't want to spoil the fun for anyone who wants to work it out for themselves. Once you see it for what it is it's a real Homer "Doh!" moment. Link

theunderstudy
I already work in Cheltenham, and I'm on *ahem* less than that. Just got to crack me this code and I'll apply. My uncle worked at GCHQ. Shame I didn't take more of an interest in this when I was younger.
Chindie Posted December 4, 2011 VT Supporter Share Posted December 4, 2011 I applied to GCHQ last year. A-Levels weren't good enough sadly.

She now lives in Baltimore - her (late) husband was employed by the US government (read CIA if you wish) in Washington as an Arabic translator. Borderline spooks. TheDon
I was going to look at applying, got past the first 2 parts of the code quite easily. Then saw the jobs on offer. No thanks. It's a pittance for the sort of thing they want. In the private sector you can double what they're offering quite easily.
Risso
I'd have thought they offer low pay on purpose, so that only people with the skills to hack into banks and transfer funds into secret accounts apply for jobs......
