mjmooney Posted December 26, 2011 VT Supporter Share Posted December 26, 2011 Have any albums come out this year? The Rolling Stones reissued Some Girls Mike ;-) WAY past their best by then. "Miss You"? Disco shite.

GarethRDR
One notable latecomer I've only just gotten round to listening too... Zun Zun Egui - Katang Weird as ****, but brilliant. Like a Ladysmith Black Mambazo cover album by The Mars Volta. And an honorary mention for sampler album of the year (if only for the title alone), Alcopop records'... Got some JoFo, some 4 or 5 Magicians and some Data.Select.Party on there, good stuff.
LondonLax
2011's crop of new music has hardly registered at all for me. Hear bits and bobs, but very little has stuck. 2012 must try harder. I'm expecting good things in the next few years. Typically, poor economic climate = glut of good music.
villa4europe
NME readers voted the horrors as album of the year, anyone concur? i picked up el camino after seeing it here, very good
parisvilla
'Bon Iver' deserves a mention for this track alone. Lord knows how long they were in the studio producing it.

mjmooney Posted December 28, 2011 VT Supporter Share Posted December 28, 2011 Amazingly, I am familiar with El Camino. Perhaps not so amazing, given that the Black Keys are massively retro. Verdict? Same as always: very good, but not as good as its influences.

I'd still give it 8/10 It's a pretty great poppy album

bose
Not to everybody's taste of course but electro pop band Sykur with their album Mesópótamía. It's been a long time since I've been so hooked on an album. I think you can listen to it here. I especially recommend the single Reykjavik. mjmooney Posted January 1, 2012 VT Supporter Share Posted January 1, 2012 OK, here's one that isn't a reissue: It IS retro, though!
