Xann
The police will need to give the CPS something wrapped with bows on, or this goes nowhere.
MakemineVanilla
The Cliff Richard thing has gone very quiet. If these are show trials, then surely it would be counter-productive to have two trials competing for media attention at the same time.
chrisp65
The Cliff Richard thing has gone very quiet. to be fair to the police it's not a quick process they need at least 3 months notification from the media that he'll be out of the country before they can organise a surprise undercover raid

tonyh29
The Cliff Richard thing has gone very quiet. to be fair to the police it's not a quick process they need at least 3 months notification from the media that he'll be out of the country before they can organise a surprise undercover raid The word was that they leaked to journalists last year in the hope they would smoke some victims out for them ... I'm guessing that didn't work so they tried a more subtle approach hoping to coerce a few witnesses to suddenly remember

chrisp65
I'm not usually one for conspiracy theories, but this whole historic sex abuse inquiry thing is beginning to get very strange. We had the bizarre appointment of Dame Butler Sloss which thankfully was stopped in its tracks. However the appointment of Fiona Woolf is now beginning to look equally odd. She insisted yesterday she was not part of the establishment. Ex President of the Law Society, UK Global Ambassador for Financial Services, Alderman for the Borough of Candlewick, CBE, Lord Mayor of the City of London, living in the same street as Leon Brittan, in the same broad social circle as Leon Brittan - but not, apparently, part of the establishment. Her letter, spelling out that she has no close connection with either Leon Brittan or the Home Office was written with the assistance of the Home Office. Is there really nobody in the country of sufficient experience and stature to run an inquiry that isn't connected to the people being investigated? Because to an outsider, it's really beginning to look that this thing is being rigged in a strangely clumsy manner, even if it just buys another postponement, another delay. There really isn't a good answer to this. Either we don't have any independent expertise in this country, or the system is utterly flawed when the establishment gets to pick who investigates the establishment.
