Rows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
Looked at clouds that way
But now they only block the sun
They rain and they snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way
I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow
It's cloud illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all
Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels
The dizzy dancing way that you feel
As every fairy tale comes real
I've looked at love that way
But now it's just another show
And you leave 'em laughing when you go
And if you care, don't let them know
Don't give yourself away
I've looked at love from both sides now
From give and take and still somehow
It's love's illusions that I recall
I really don't know love
Really don't know love at all
Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say, "I love you" right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
I've looked at life that way
Oh, but now old friends they're acting strange
And they shake their heads and they tell me that I've changed
Well something's lost, but something's gained
In living every day
I've looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all
It's life's illusions that I recall
I really don't know life
I really don't know life at all

"Both Sides Now" is a great album (that's the title song) arranged and conducted by Vince Mendoza who I was lucky enough to work with earlier this year #humblebrag

I must have heard that song countless times but I only recently discovered how profound the lyrics are.

O Rose thou art sick.

The invisible worm,

That flies in the night

In the howling storm:

Has found out thy bed

Of crimson joy:

And his dark secret love

Does thy life destroy.

William Blake

One of my faves - for @mjmooney because he said he thought Blake was taking the piss about 2 years ago 🙂

Did I? Can't think what I might have meant by that. I like Blake.

I don't, stealing from people's pockets in the changing room.

No wonder he ended up at small heath.

Blake has some reputation as a great poet, but frankly, that is seriously crap. I've often wondered whether he was deliberately taking the piss (a la William McGonagall) with that one.

This is the Blake poem you were talking about:

The sun does arise,
And make happy the skies.
The merry bells ring
To welcome the Spring.
The sky-lark and thrush,
The birds of the bush,
Sing louder around,
To the bells’ cheerful sound.
While our sports shall be seen
On the Ecchoing Green.

Old John, with white hair
Does laugh away care,
Sitting under the oak,
Among the old folk,
They laugh at our play,
And soon they all say.
‘Such, such were the joys.
When we all girls & boys,
In our youth-time were seen,
On the Ecchoing Green.’

Till the little ones weary
No more can be merry
The sun does descend,
And our sports have an end:
Round the laps of their mothers,
Many sisters and brothers,
Like birds in their nest,
Are ready for rest;
And sport no more seen,
On the darkening Green.

Oh, well tbh that one was a bit McGonagall.

I do not like to be alone

I do not like it on my own

I do not like to masturbate

I do not like the meal I ate

I do not like it by myself

I do not like the empty shelf

I do not like green eggs and ham

I do not like it, but I am
