leviramsey Posted November 3, 2011 VT Supporter Share Posted November 3, 2011 That's not saying that the Niners have clinched... if the total of 49er losses and Seahawk wins is at least 15 (out of 18 total games remaining between the teams), then the 49ers will not win the division and will presumably miss the playoffs. kurtsimonw
What does the 100% actually represent then? If they attain the number in the wins column they will have 100% chance? Oh, when do Thursday night games start?
leviramsey Posted November 3, 2011 VT Supporter Share Posted November 3, 2011 FootballOutsiders"] The playoff odds report plays out the [remainder of the] season 20,000 times. A random draw assigns each team a win or loss for each game. The probability that a team will be given a win is based on an equation which considers the current DAVE ratings of the two teams as well as home-field advantage. (DVOA ratings are explained here.) Mean Wins is the average number of wins for this team over the 20,000 simulations. (The 49ers have a 99.9% chance of making the playoffs)
