I though Gardner was really poor in the games he was involved with so far but he at least has more energy than the Beard so I'd stick him in. I suggested inviting Petrov back only yesterday but that was met with sheer disagreement by a few!

With good reason. A Petrov of yesteryear would be fantastic. Petrov now is very different. (Unless you mean as coach, in which case I've completely misread your post!)
ozvillafan Posted October 19, 2016 VT Supporter Share Posted October 19, 2016 So... did well with a proper defensive midfielder next to him? interesting.
Tom13
How often does Westwood make a telling pass? Very rarely. Gardner yesterday set Adomah free with a clever pass for the first, and then set Ayew up to win the penalty. I'll take that.

Dr_Pangloss
Excellent pass in the build up for the first goal, not a bad performance outside of that.

meregreen
He's better than Westwood. So until we get better than him, he plays.

Gary Thomas
Thought he did well last night and gave us a bit more energy in midfield.
Popular Post markavfc40
It was his pass that put Adomah away for the first goal wasn’t it? on the second goal when Ayew won the penalty I noticed that he was in the six yard box which is something our midfielders have failed to do for years. I think that he has plenty of ability and is another one just lacking a bit of belief. He also needs the right players alongside him. I can see him starting on Saturday as that performance last night warranted him keeping his place and Bruce was full of praise for him after the game. Popular Post Mjvilla
Loved it when he gave the ball to ayew for the pen, he carried on his run and got into the area. He didn't get on the end of anything, but having someone breaking from midfield like that is something we haven't seen in so long!
villaglint
He played two decent passes, had one pretty tame shot and one which was traveling but immediately blocked after a corner. Other than that he was pretty invisible for long long periods of the game. I would love to see him do well and maybe with a run he might do. But I honestly don't think he will. If had to evaluate him today. His passing is pretty good. His shooting is very good. His basic technique is basic. He works hard without covering a lot of ground in the way some modern midfielders do. He cannot press to save his life. His idea of pressing is to run up to the player and not get beat as if you were playing five a side. If someone gets in his ear and has a go at him he runs up to the player too fast an fouls him. I wish Gary would teach him how to tackle. He put in a shift last night don't get me wrong but I'm surprised people are getting excited about that performance because other than two decent and let's face it pretty straight forward passes he was very anonymous.

dont_do_it_doug.
I thought he was OK. I'd praise the graft, but I've never been able to fault that from him. Funnily enough I think he has played better this season. Perhaps I'm thinking of the Forest game before being dropped for another of RDM's experiments. However based on the managers comments, which will have been a massive boost for him, he certainly did enough to keep his place.

dounavilla
I'm pleased he had a decent game and not trying to nitpick but he's a walking yellow card and needs to work on his tackling.
