snowychap
Back Hurricane Fly to with the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham 2011. Better bet than any stock. Horse is unbeatable if turning up. This is perhaps the worst tip ever....you are not going to find many bookies who will take that bet now! Ah the odds will be a bit shit but that's because he's the champ. But yeah you can back him no problem. It's the champion hurdle after all., Ahem. I think you missed the highlighted bit, Conor. :winkold:

Ah I see, you're knowledge of horse racing is non existent hence your joke fell flat on it's face Cheltenham 2011 is this season. It's in March and you can most certainly bet on the champion hurdle. It's antepost betting. You can bet on feature races of cheltenham a year in advance. Basically the moment the festival is over you can bet on next year. My 'knowledge' of horse racing is pretty good, thank you very much. Cheltenham 2011 is this season. According to whom? This NH season is the 2011/12 season. I have never heard any of the people I know (who do or have worked or been involved in either the betting or racing industry) refer to The Festival that takes place in year n as 'Cheltenham year n-1'. I think you're missing the point though. This is the stock market investment thread. I was pointing out that I gave a suggested investment strategy which paid off as predicted and in short order. And even if stock market investments do badly, you still have some of the value and opportunity. You're suggestion is a win or lose everything idea. The_Rev
I'd buy shares in Apple. The iPhone 5 is due out soon and they they will probably sell a metric **** ton of iPads for Xmas. The share price will rise on the back of that, surely? (edit:) Apple share price on July 14th was 357.77 I wish I had taken my own advice. Shares are up about 18% since I posted that! Apple just posted their quarterly results, the first quarter since Jobs died. They made a $13bn profit (Xmas ftw) and have almost $100bn in cash. Paddywhack
so is it still worth buying shares in them? Or have they climaxed? Apple's climaxed. It was watching hardcore porn. The_Rev
I'd still buy them tbh. Maybe wait a week or so, but iPad 3 and iPhone 5 are both on the horizon and shitloads of people will buy them.

Single share are way too risky imho because no-one can know enought about the real situation.
JulieB
I wonder what the global markets will make of matters if Greece implodes and the Euro wobbles? Methinks it's going to get a wee bit bumpy.

JulieB
Anyone know how I can invest in videogame developers? I would like to put some money into shares for up and coming developers, yet I am unsure how to do this There will be an EIS or VCT I'm sure which invests in Venture Capital for video games probably. If you invest in these shares you have to keep them for 3 yrs in the case of an EIS & 5 years for VCT shares - but you will get an immediate tax rebate of 30% of your investment. You'll have to do some research on Google but do your due diligence as there will probably be some scammers to boot. High risk nature though so make sure sure you're comfortable with that. Nigel Posted January 27, 2012 VT Supporter Share Posted January 27, 2012 Which video game developers? I was thinking about 38 Studios. Worth a punt? Always risky putting your money into a company you dont know much about! Game developers also have the added pressure of being one game away from disaster. On the other hand if they get it right.... As Julie says...High risk!
