TRS-T
STEPHEN Warnock has finally broken his silence on his Villa hell under Gerard Houllier last season and revealed: “I never want it to happen again.” Warnock was banished to train with the reserves for five months in January after falling out with the former boss midway through the 2010-11 campaign. It was a challenging time for the left-back, who had played for England just weeks before his exile and was a member of last summer’s World Cup squad. Warnock has since regained his place under new boss Alex McLeish and has been an ever-present in the claret and blues’ unbeaten Premier League start. The 29-year-old defender is anxious to make up for lost time after thanking Villa coaching stalwart Kevin MacDonald for keeping his spirits up. “It was frustrating and I never want it to happen again,” said Warnock, whose last appearance before this season came in December’s defeat at Manchester City. “That’s why I’m so hungry to do well this season. “It was very difficult but I was lucky to have Kevin with me when I was training with the reserves. “He kept me on top of my game and told me to keep fit and make sure my head was right. “He said ‘you never know what’s going to happen in football’. He was great to me and Habib Beye. “He kept us ticking along and the young lads were great with us as well. “It was good at times because I was helping to develop the young lads and passing on a bit of knowledge to them.” Warnock has been an integral part of a defensive unit which has conceded just five goals in Villa’s two victories and five draws in the Premier League. And the former Liverpool, Coventry and Blackburn player is hoping to recapture the fine form which followed his £8 million move to Villa in August 2009. “I’m enjoying my football and things are going well but it’s early days yet,” said Warnock. “I have to carry on doing it for the rest of the season. “The difficult thing is to maintain your form but I will be trying everything I can to continue that. “My best form was when I was at Blackburn and when I got my move here. “In my first six months at Villa, before I got injured, I was playing as well as I ever have. Hopefully I can get back to that level. “I know I can do it if I get a run of games and keep my fitness up. That’s a massive thing. ‘‘If you’re playing regularly, you get your confidence up and you know things will come off when you try them.” Warnock has been impressed with the new-found camaraderie in the Villa dressing room and insists there is now an open environment where players can air their thoughts in a constructive way. “Sometimes it is better if things are said by the players to each other, rather than it coming from the manager all the time,” added Warnock. “We’re living with each other day-in, day-out and we have to be able to talk to each other in a constructive way. ‘‘The lads do that and they all know it’s nothing personal. We just try to encourage each other to do better.” Stephen Warnock breaks his silence on his hell under Gerard Houllier

R.I.C.O.
Another player comes out critisising the disastrous Houllier spell. Its turning into a bit of a pattern is'nt it? Worst Villa manager we had in 25 years.
symmouk
I thought Warnock was excellent yesterday - was intercepting some key passes and caused a lot of trouble down the left...

chappy
Warnock has been quality this season, one of our best players. Him and Gabby look great down the left.
Ponky
I thought Warnock was excellent yesterday - was intercepting some key passes and caused a lot of trouble down the left... Brilliant and terrible in equal measures. It's no good intercepting the opposition passes if you are going to pass it straight back to them when your teammates are streaming forward. He was also dozing for their second goal - you see on the replays that he looks around gobsmacked that the Norwich player has snuck in behind him while he watched the ball sail over his head. I thought he was fantastic the previous match against Sunderland - man of the match IMO - but let himself down with poor passing and terrible crossing against Norwich. He's generally a very capable player, but he is prone to defensive fuckups that cost goals. At least he's working hard these days, which he wasn't under GH. TRO
..............Hhhhhmmmmn Not convinced about the player...too many positional errors for me.
NASTY_LEE
For all his knockers no one can suggest a better LB for 5 or 6 million can they? I don't think he's been that bad at all just for the record especially when you see how Evra's been getting on at United.
Majkee
..............Hhhhhmmmmn Not convinced about the player...too many positional errors for me.Too much positional errors and stupid fouls maker. he can make a goal in our net out from nothing. hutton seems to be the same "class" recently. VillaChris
Warnock is a better full back than Hutton but yeah he is prone to some pretty poor clangers, usually diving in and giving away needless free kicks.
Robbie09
Warnock's a more than capable left back, rated by many in the game. He's an easy target for his detractors though and won't be given any credit at all by some no matter how well he performs.
CI
For all the good work he does, he generally undoes it with a loose / sloppy pass or a mistimed challenge in and around our box Has he relocated yet or is he still hedging his bets

markavfc40
No surprise that he came back in to the fold after being frozen out last season. Kev Mac can't speak highly enough of the lad and his exemplary attitude after being banished to train with the kids and play in the reserves last season. Fair play to him. He has done well for the most part this season and may well be on outside bet for a place in the England squad again.
Mantis
may well be on outside bet for a place in the England squad again. Can't see that happening unless Cole and Baines get injured. Even then I'm not sure he should be in the squad.

You're probably right, for the money he is in the pack of mediorce player LB's out there, however you could pick an equal one up for half the price on less wages if you had a look!
