I know Mick, I used to play football with him, move in the same circles etc in the 80s & 90s, a nicer man you'll never meet. Also the missus was in his class in junior and senior school. But anyway, his new album is great, fairly typical lovely personal songwriting and melodies but you can really hear the influence of Bill Ryder-Jones on production duties in the overall sound. I actually think @mjmooney should give this one a go Michale Head is one of the lost treasures of British songwriting in my humble opinion. The Fale Fountains were great, as were Shack and I look forward to getting that album ASAP. He deserves to be far better known than he actually is, but as you say he's had a lot of bad luck, although to be fair probably mostly self inflicted.

I did play it once through on Spotify though. It's very Punk, which is good as it means Dwyer is out of the Prog Hole 5 minutes ago, theboyangel said: Nightmare On Slater Street (Used to be Sallow Pillow a liverpool band I saw several times a few years back) Thats a name change for the better. bickster Posted August 28, 2022 Moderator Share Posted August 28, 2022 PIcked this up today for the princly sum of £6. A very early Rough Trade album. Rough 16. I bought it because the track Jazz is the Teacher (Funk is the Preacher) was a track on the precursor to the now famous C86 NME Cassette, the C81 NME / Rough Trade cassette. And C81 was actually much better than C86 IMO. This copy isn't in the best nick, it noticeably crackles between the tracks on side 1 but plays absolutely fine. At the price I paid, I'm happy. It combines Free & Comtemporary Jazz with Funk and it makes perfect sense that it was released on Rough Trade in 1980 as this was abolutely on point for where one strand of Post-Punk was heading with the likes of the Pop Group / Rip Rig and Panic / Pig Bag / Maximum Joy et al. I find it really does fit in with that scene. Anyway... James 'Blood' Ulmer - Are You Glad to be in America?
