When you walk south and get to the south pole, you can no longer go south. Does south stop? Does it have an edge? Spacetime is like that. That if we had all the answers to how we're here and why, we probably wouldn't be able to understand it anyway. The analogy (can't remember where it came from) was that even if you could communicate with a cat, you wouldn't be able to teach it to play chess. It just doesn't have the mental capabilities to comprehend a game of chess. It wouldn't be able to learn it. That's what we could be like with the origins and secrets of the universe. We just wouldn't get it even if it was staring us in the face.

It’s why we have muppets who are brexit specialists, who are covid deniers, who are conspiracy theorists or religious nuts. They world is so complicated that you couldn’t possibly understand it all so you end up choosing to believe something that you can personally rationalise, even if it doesn’t stand up to scrutiny. Its such a fascinating subject because if there was nothing how does a big bang just happen? I saw a talk by Brian Cox once where he tried to explained this ... its fascinating stuff but also way above my level of intelligence so any errors below are me paraphrasing I think the Big Bang theory originated from a Belgian bloke in the 1920's , who proposed the universe started from a single atom ... but Cox theorises that there was already a universe , but there was no matter, and all that existed was space-time .. I think this theory is called "inflation theory " rather than Big bang That doesn't mean Cox is the fount of all knowledge , but some other science dude receive a Nobel prize for putting forward that theory , which was an expansion of ideas from Hawking's radiation theory

If there is non-linear existence out there I doubt we’d be able to comprehend it.

I think a universe always existed but because we know of time and abide by it. We just assume there must have been a start and we comprehend as no such thing as never not having a start
