Wouldn’t one of your team, the stooge with the unrealistically high bid, need to pay the large winning bid?!

Yes but then you can apply for a job as an antiques specialist based on your incredible performance on Bargain Hunt

Yes, but we now have the cash prize AND we still have the antique saucy postcards, which we can sell.

I’ve got a Bargain Hunt scam and I can’t see why it wouldn’t work.

Buy any old tut, but have two stooges in the bidding room. Get them to bid against each other bumping up the price of each item. Guaranteed win and you get to keep the cash and split it four ways.

Why hasn’t this been done, and who can meet me at Malvern Antiques on the 4th June?

Isn’t that exactly what Bez did on a celebrity episode? Not sure I ever saw it but I remember reading about it. I think they busted him because, well it’s Bez and he’s not very subtle. They handed the victory to Pulp by default.

This is not an episode I was aware of.

This is an episode I need to find!

Was his girlfriend  bidding on the items

he made £8 profit and was ordered to pay it back and victory awarded to Pulp

Yep, Bez had his girlfriend bid on his items. They had to do an apology afterwards. And Pulp did indeed win which is only right and proper after all.

Do you think there is a beach boys fan, I mean big fan, not just in passing, @rjw63 level. That although they have tried to fight it, their favourite beach boys song is Kokomo. That person must exist.

Rephrased that for ya, and the answer is right there in your question.

Most anorak-type collectors that I know cannot stand Kokomo.

It's not that bad as tunes go but for it to be your fave, out of THEIR huge catalogue, must be pretty odd.

OK, while we're doing Beach Boys (cue Kenneth), I wonder why so many commentators have a problem understanding the lyrics of "Surf's Up", specifically the line "Columnated ruins domino", which is routinely dismissed as meaningless gobbledygook.

It's perfectly sensible. "Domino" is used as a verb, referring to the 'domino effect', where objects fall and knock each other over in a chain reaction. Ancient ruined cities (Greek and Roman) are full of crumbling columns. The imagery is of these columns toppling each other (presumably as a metaphor for the impermanence of empires, etc.)

What's so hard to understand?

Its hard to understand why the Beach Boys were so popular ? all their songs sounded the same ( just different words )

Weirdest spelling of Jan and Dean I’ve ever seen.

This, after I was discussing "Surf's Up". The title aside, it's about as far from "Surfin' USA" as it's possible to imagine.

Yeah, but Kokomo is a dead ringer for Pet Sounds!

I think you have them confused with some other band whose name begins with Bea...

Now, come ON.

You're entitled to hate them, but there is probably no band in history that went through a more diverse set of musical style shifts.

EDIT : Oh, wait. You were probably referring to the Beastie Boys. My bad.
