I could be showing extreme ignorance here. If it has an "E", it's generally Irish, but I'm guessing Mooney is wondering if the "E" is added in anything outside of Scotland? That is exactly what I was wondering. Irish is whiskey, so is American, so I was thinking that whisky was perhaps just for scotch. But then the Japanese stuff calls itself whisky, so probably not. chrisp65
A quick google suggests its just two alternative spellings of a Gaelic word, with the Irish choosing to be differentiated by the spelling as at one point much of the Scottish whisky was rubbish. I wonder if you can choose to be different and set up a company with the alternative spelling to all the others in your country of origin?
Mark Albrighton Posted March 30, 2022 VT Supporter Share Posted March 30, 2022 It’s generally whisky in Canada too. I’ve had a quick look and it seems like it’s generally the Irish (and subsequently) the Americans who spell it as whiskey. As for Japan, it appears whisky production stemmed from learning about distilling in Scotland, so that would account for them spelling it that way. Again, from my very brief reading on it, there doesn’t seem to be a difference in production to account for the different spellings. I was going to suggest to avoid the problem, it’s best just to have two whiskies. But I’ve now read the plural of whiskey can be whiskeys. I think I’ll ruminate over a rum. 2

He even goes to see him live I’m sure I’ve posted a few times about him , He often frequents the same pub as me ( when he’s not in LA) his brother is my daughters music teacher and one of our closest friends plays guitar in his band … I’ve seen him live in that he comes along to the annual charity night some regulars put on at the pub and will usually do a spot … at the last one he did a duet of “take on me “ on the melodica with one of our friends and for the Christmas pantomime he played the part of a lobster. he’s genuinely a nice bloke who doesn’t take himself seriously and very approachable , shame he’s a West Ham fan though … that said I don’t know anything about him other than he was in Buddy’s song and had a number one record with a song Nik that Kershaw wrote .. I’d probably stick to Big Country for my speciality round on Mastermind

It’s a shortening of biographical picture so to split it up any other way other than Bio Pic is crazy talk. The wrong 'uns are putting the emphasis in the wrong place Bi Opic, that makes no sense whatsoever

I'm wondering who you mean - Aretha Franklin? Nina Simone? One of the Whitney/ Mariah /Adele /Amy singers, or one of those Opera singer ones? Or a favourite of yours, or an Irish singer, if not one of those I mentioned? Genuinely wondering about this.
