Why are so many jews millionares, i have two jewish friends and they are both millionares (in swedish krones that is) and i know another 5 or 6 jews here in my town who are very rich.

And many football teams in england have jewish owners aswell, The jews are a tiny bit of the worlds population yet there are so many millionares among them.

Are they smarter then evrybody else?

Blimey, what next, Protocols of the Elders of Zion?

I know several Jewish people and not one is anywhere near being a millionaire.

Still not sure it backs up the question fully, but interesting either way.

http://www.gamespot.com/forums/offtopic-discussion-314159273/forbes-116-of-worlds-billionaires-are-jews-totally-29382646/

The Jewish people may account for less than 0.2% of the world's population, but among the 1,426 billionaires around the globe, 165 or 11.6% of them are Jews, and their joint wealth has reached the incredible amount of $812 billion, according to Forbes Israel. Out of the 50 richest people in the world, about a quarter or 25% are Jewish, and of the top 10 richest Jews in the world, eight are from the U.S., while two are from Russia.

I'm not sure a forum post on gamespot.com is a good source for population metrics. :)

I'm not saying it's not correct, just that particular source isn't a good one.

It's quoted from Forbes Israel. Anyway, I found it interesting either way.

First line: "credit to mevotex@miricommunity.net". It credits a large number of sources. I read it as an op-ed piece, not a statement of facts but an individual's musings.

I see that, but the section I quoted specifically says according to Forbes Israel. I get that there are many sources but the part I found interesting was the part I quoted as it specifically dealt with the initial question.

There isn't a link to Forbes Israel in the list of credits.

Yeah, I think its taken from an article in Forbes Magazine. Tbh, my lack of Hebrew is proving to be a real issue with locating an online version of the original article so you win. :)

Edit, no you don't. http://www.forbes.co.il/news/new.aspx?pn6Vq=J&0r9VQ=IEII

Just need to translate that into English.

I guess as well as looking for the stats, we need to peel one more layer. It's fairly easy to find stats that say 10 of the 50 richest on earth are Jewish, but a quick look in to that and it's apparent we have to define what is meant by Jewish.

I've looked up two of those people so far, the first two names listed in one of many Times of Israel articles.

First, Larry Ellison, born in the USA mother jewish, father american italian. Father wasn't present, mum gave Larry up aged 9 months and they didn't meet again for another 47 years. Ellison himself is quoted as saying:

"While I think I am religious in one sense, the particular dogmas of Judaism are not dogmas I subscribe to. I don't believe that they are real. They're interesting stories. They're interesting mythology, and I certainly respect people who believe these are literally true, but I don't. I see no evidence for this stuff." ...........At age thirteen, Ellison refused to have a bar mitzvah celebration

wiki

Similarly, Mark Zuckerberg is named as a rich jew. Again, according to bio's including the usual wikipedia, he was born in the USA and and has stated that he is an atheist, and has married a non-jew. So, by what measure is he a jew? Z's wife, Priscilla Chan was born in the USA of Chinese-Vietnamese parents that fled Saigon as refugees. She is currently reported pregnant. I would imagine there is every chance The Times of Israel will claim this child for the jewish diaspora.

That's only 2 of the 10, but they are the only 2 I very quickly looked up. I guess in that respect, like all good stats, they can say whatever you want them to.

I don't know, it's that whole race / religion / roots / politics / parenting thing and frankly it's a problem we appear to have, needing to know what labels people have.

Once you start claiming bragging rights for your diaspora, all manner of facts and figures are possible. 17 of the 56 signatories of the American Declaration of Independence were 'welsh' if you want to interpret 'facts' in a particular way.

Interesting though.
