Good chippy though.

egg hill chippy?
Think it's called Tak's. I've never seen a chippy do such a range of food, including villa park Balti pies. Win.
Now, you see, up here in Yorkshire, offering a wide range of food would be seen as deeply suspect in a chippy. Most of them up here are purist - fish (haddock, always haddock, no cod or owt like that), chips, mushy peas, possibly fishcakes, breadcakes. That's it. And only open at certain times of the week. I was baffled when I first moved here, but I've learned to love the concept.

Oh yeah I totally get that, I love a traditional chip shop which only sells standard chippy fare, however they seem a dying breed in the Midlands. Incidentally Tak's chips are far from the best thing about it.

There is definitely a line of thinking that the bigger a restaurant's menu, the less they specialise in anything. I can see how that might also be true in a chipper, although you'd think the chipper customer would be slightly less discerning or fussy :) (perish the thought).

If there was ever a time when people considered recorded messages saying things like "your call is important to us" in friendly and slightly flirty voices to be a good thing.

Really it's just a further annoyance to add to the list which already includes "not having enough good people to answer the bloody phone".
