AshVilla
What happens if in the next election another Morsi type candidate wins? Another coup or do they just get on with democracy. It all depends on what he likes for breakfast If he has 1 egg he's fine but if he has two its all over for him That seems more than reasonable. What did Cameron have for breakfast? Caviar on toast washed down with a glass of Cristal Were all in this together
chrisp65
Would dirty hands out of Egypt include no longer funding the Egyption military? bit of a dilema here for the freedom lovin' US of A, democratically elected Islamic idiot vs. U.S. sponsored military Ps why is he a Islamic idiot? Please explain because i want to comment but I dont want to jump to conclusions I'm not suggesting he's an idiot because he's Islamic (plenty on here to bang that drum), but that he turned out to be an idiot that had a chance to unite a country, bring together all groups and get Egypt heading towards the sort of status that the BRIC countries are getting. Egypt has a vast human resource, it's a potential link between east and west, it has Suez, it's on the Med. So much potential, so much good will internally and externally. Yet Morsi appears to have managed to take all that and attempt to shove it down the toilet. By just about every standard measure, the country is worse off now than before. Coupled with that, he's from the Brotherhood and can have the word Islamic associated with him, so in the eyes of the U.S., Islamic is bad and scary, so in the eyes of the U.S., he's an Islamic Idiot. "can have the word Islamic associated with him [...] Islamic is big and scary" What? 90% of the population of Egypt is Islamic*, it is frankly absurd to say that a ) Being Islamic is a negative thing in any way and b ) That anybody could "unite a country, bring together all groups..." If they dont represent the 90% majority of people in that country is ridiculous. Even if this 'Islamic Idiot' gets the boot the next person to run the country will most certainly also be Muslim. *Here. CarewsEyebrowDesigner
It's increasingly looking like the Army are hellbent on snuffing out any support for the Muslim Brotherhood. Hints of Chile '73? Suppose all coups result in outlawing the opposition but the slaughter of their supporters leaves a bitter taste. But I guess it's OK really because its only the MB (like it was only the socialists in Chile) and soon a western friendly guvmint will be in place, eh? Yes, the army, the US, Israel and Saudi will all want to secure the continuation of the "deep state". Expect a puppet government friendly to these interests, but continuing crisis as well. peterms
Trita Parsi @tparsi Iranians elected moderate leader and rejected radicalism. US House responds by adopting new sanctions. Do they want conflict? Good question. Is there any sensible answer other than "Yes, they do"?

CarewsEyebrowDesigner
I find it odd. Raping and killing thousands of innocent people (including children) is worth a stern telling off, but a chemical weapon is considered off limits? I'm sure its a pretty **** horrid way to die but to act as if what went before was not as serious just strikes the wrong note. Anyway, now France are considering force, whatever that means. The whole thing is ****. There is no easy answer. Edited August 23, 2013 by CarewsEyebrowDesigner

peterms
Nope, its pretty clear. There is no reference to US officials emailing each other. You seem to have introduced that from nowhere. Since that's the reason you give for disbelieving the story, ie you don't think US officials would send such e-mails, it makes it even stranger that it's something you appear to have misread, and still don't see.The cached article is here.I'd be interested if anyone things it's a fake, and if so, on what basis.
