jonno_2004
Bollocks IMO. Wouldn't have been on the bench if he was in talks. McLeish also said no departures until replacements have been sorted.
Stevo985 Posted August 20, 2011 VT Supporter Share Posted August 20, 2011 Hopefully bollocks. Don't think he's been too impressive for us, but he's hardly had a chance. I'm sure he has more to show us if he's given that chance. Only way this would make any sort of sense is if there was someone else coming in to take his place
briny_ear
Well, that's Houllier, McAllister and now McLeish who haven't fancied playing him in many (if any) games. So maybe it's not quite so incomprehensible as some seem to think...
Risso
He doesn't fit into McLeish's style of football.. McLeish prefers his team to have 0 creativity. Or maybe he just thinks that Bannan is a better player, which he is.
markavfc40
Just back from VP and based on today he is going to have a hard time getting in the team. Petrov and Delph did extremely well and looked a decent pairing linking well together. Bannan when he came on mid way through the second half to make it more of a central three also did very well and looked extremely bright. We kept the ball very well today but what Delph and Petrov offer that Makoun doesn't seem to is a pair of balls as if the going gets tough he goes missing. Well I think what is incomprehensible is possibly getting rid if a player who has not a chance to adapt or acclimatise to the league. Evra and Vidic were signed in a January and didn't impress many for the 2nd half of the season.
CrackpotForeigner
...Not to mention the fact that in the few chances he's had, he's shown potential to be an actual playmaker, which we haven't had since I can remember, unless you count Ashley Young. Btw, if you've spent much time on VT in the last six months you'll know that briny doesn't rate him. Pay him no heed
Big_John_10
If we bring in someone proven at this level then no issues with him going. From today it looks like he'll have trouble getting in. I'd rather Ireland than him as well. We didn't lack creativity or lack the ability to keep the ball without him today. Not a big loss if he goes. CrackpotForeigner
Not a big loss if he goes. Only because he's not getting games. If we play him he will create goals.

There's just as much chance of him being as shit as last season. There must be a reason he's not getting picked. Other players clearly impress more in training and so far Delph has performed well and bannan looked sharp today. There's no reason for him to get a start. He doesn't deserve one over other players. He made about two bad tackles, and a couple of very good tackles where he won the ball but was booked anyway. And iirc, if you look at the goals we scored while he was on the pitch, he was involved in the buildup play in just about every single one. Like against Man U last season when he was probably the best player on the pitch? At Old Trafford? He's barely had a chance to show what he can do and when he has done he's done ok on the whole. The reason he's not getting in the team is because we probably need Petrov atm, due to his experience. We need Delph in there because of his energy, Makoun and Delph have rarely if ever played together, it makes more sense to play Petrov than an untried partnership in CM. Big_John_10
But he played about 200 minutes last season and was anything but shit. He went out of the team and didn't get back in because he was poor. He's not been involved yet because we have better players and he will have to wait for a chance. If that chance come he needs to make sure he plays better than he did last season.
bickster Posted August 20, 2011 Moderator Share Posted August 20, 2011 Eric Djemba-Djemba played well in one game too. and? So far that is all that Makoun's done. Three managers have now not picked him, including the bloke that bought him.
Jarpie
In spring Makoun missed couple games because he was injured or suspended, and was allowed to leave the country for the last couple games because his family got into an accident.
NottingVilla
Oh no the "we've won today so we don't need him" brigade are out (characterised by their fickle short-sightedness). Getting rid of Makoun would be another massive step backwards, we can't play Blackburn every week you know. Wouldn't surprise me if Arsene had been on the phone.
