choffer Posted September 13, 2010 VT Supporter Share Posted September 13, 2010 Bit surprised that Houllier backed Domenech after Euro 2008 though - that's a bit of a worry! Think this was discussed on Football Weekly last week. The consensus was that he backed Domenech, expecting him to not be able to turn the French team around and consequently fall on his sword. At this point, Houllier expected to take over the national team for the second time, in the hopes that he could make up for his poor first attempt. Sounds all a bit Machiavellian to me. AshVilla
Stoke Bolton and Blackburn are physical teams if there isnt more of a need to play reo coker in these games whats the point in having the bloke on the wage bill. Petrov and Ireland dont work it did against newcastle for 20 minutes before they bullied us out of the game

Jez
Stoke v Aston Villa: Gary McAllister favoured to become Gerard Houllier's new right-hand man Gary McAllister has been identified as Gerard Houllier’s fourth choice to become his assistant coach at Aston Villa, after close friends Phil Thompson and Patrice Bergues, and current caretaker manager Kevin MacDonald, all turned down the opportunity of working alongside the Frenchman. By Sandy Macaskill Published: 11:10AM BST 13 Sep 2010 McAllister, who was described by Houllier as “my most inspirational signing” when the-then Liverpool manager signed the 35 year-old midfielder, has emerged as Houllier’s favourite candidate after Dietmar Hamann privately indicated that he wishes to extend his own playing career as long as possible with MK Dons. It could take some time for Houllier to bring in McAllister, however. The Scot is currently working with Gordon Strachan at Middlesbrough after being sacked by Leeds United. He had a home in Leicestershire until recently, but he has since moved to Yorkshire to cut down the commute to Middlesbrough's training complex at Hurworth. Fortunately, time is a commodity Houllier has plenty of. He is yet to come to an agreement with the French Football Federation over when he is able to vacate his role as technical director - he has three months' notice to serve - so he will not be taking up his duties, at the earliest, until the Wolverhampton Wanderers game at the end of the month. He will not, therefore, be at the Britannia Stadium this evening, for Villa’s fixture with Stoke City. Instead, MacDonald will continue as caretaker manager. The 49 year-old, who has refused to comment during the recruitment process for Martin O’Neill’s successor, might have been overlooked for the managerial post, but he has certainly won the respect of the first team players. "He's done a very, very good job in the circumstances he was given with the first team,” said Stewart Downing. “Obviously he's got a lot of respect here. He's brought a lot of young players through - a load who are still here and a load who have left. He'll just get on with his job whether he's dealing with the first team or whether he's going back to the reserves. He's done really well for us up to now. I think he's an ultra-professional." Where is this being reported? Slightly OT but didn't both you and MysteryMan state that Thommo had quite working for Sky, seemingly to take up the assistant role at VP? From what I could see he was working his magic on Soccer Saturday

I understand he resigned then had a change of mind. This is the thing people seem not to get about ITK info, things change.

Remember, he was going to have Ireland in the side that faced Everton, which to me means he was going to leave NRC on the bench and play the same team that showed up against Newcastle. I am hoping to see 4-5-1 with NRC and Petrov alongside each other with Ireland behind Gabby and Ash Young back out wide. Means he has to leave out Downing or Albrighton and on recent form it would be interesting to see who gets ditched.
Risso
I see the club are trying to flog special deals for the Bolton game under the premise of "welcoming the new manager to Villa Park". They've been very careful in their choice of words, eg "Gerard Houllier will be in attendance" (ie, not actually working as manager) but to me it all smacks a bit of false advertising.
