Popular Post chrisp65
On this day in 2001, a proper 'I was there' moment. Barry Town, a team laced with people I drank and socialised with, beat FC Porto 3:1 in a Champions League Qualifier. Straight up and legit proper game with east european officials, flags and the CL music pumped out around the ground whilst they walked out and exchanged pennants. Spine tingling stuff. Having already beaten FC Baku of Azerbaijan (a trip I missed unfortunately), a sell out crowd of just over 2,000 saw one of the club's finest days. It all got proper emotional in the clubhouse lock-in later. The away leg didn't go quite so well, but a great trip out. One where I realised a tumbler full of sherry is a perfectly acceptable chaser to a cold beer.

EDIT: On a serious note that's very cool. Edited August 1, 2014 by adw95
lapal_fan
I once shouted "Can I have you're children Juan Pablo!!" When he was playing in the lower north. He started laughing and nearly scored an own goal defending the corner

Minutes after missing a penalty at the other end.

chrisp65
my dad at the Villa a few years back, with his pen and his programme, stood to the side of a group of kids getting autographs shouting: "Fernando....Fernando.....Fernando mate, over here.....Fernando.....excuse me, Fernando.......hey, hey, Fernando......" on and on it went until I could take no more "Dad, the guy's name is Ricardo" at which point, Mr Scimeca looked up and gave me a great big wink (spellchecked) I think I laughed for the entire journey home

dAVe80
Never got the JPA hype, he was pretty shit save for one season. A bit harsh, but I kind of see what you mean. Over hyped, rather than shit, for me. Decent and turned out to be a good honest Villa man, but not deserving of the hero worship some give him. Maybe it's an age thing? I know a lot of fans in their late teens / early 20s love him, because he was probably the main man, when they started watching Villa.
Ginko
Yeah perhaps. I was always more of a Yorke man myself. Okay, it was a bit harsh to call Angel shit but he wasn't great.

The reason we loved him was because he was the player Doug bought to appease us immediately after the 'pound sign' protest. Still one of my proudest moments to know that handout originated on my computer. Should have made them a numbered limited edition, and signed it.
