The cat tour started small.

John Edwards thought it would be hilarious — and somewhat ridiculous — to lead a walk through his Minneapolis neighborhood admiring the many felines that live there.

“It’s the kind of densely populated neighborhood where if you’re walking around, you’re going to see a lot of cats,” said Edwards, who lives in Lowry Hill East — often called “the Wedge” because of its wedgelike shape — where there are roughly 9,300 residents.

About a dozen people showed up for the impromptu cat tour, led by Edwards, seven years ago. Over a two-mile walk, the group stopped to see some 20 cats peeking through their windows.

Edwards — who runs a hyperlocal media publication called Wedge Live— never anticipated his cat tour concept would catch on. But people loved it and wanted more, so Edwards began organizing an annual cat tour.

It grew every year.

“It was a joke, and now it’s real,” Edwards said. “I just thought it would be a funny theme for an event, and it turned into a thing hundreds and hundreds of people wanted to come to.”

There was a car show at Beacon Park in Lichfield today. As a result, plenty of great cars driving in and around the city centre - including a lot of 70s and 80s cars as well as your more traditional 50s and 60s. Saw a cracking V8 SD1, an Escort Cossie, a mint Sierra Sapphire, a Mk3 Capri, an early gen 1 MX5 and plenty of others.

Lovely stuff :)

Had a massive 'real life' fall off since end of Jan, too many parties, too many festivals, too many sessions. A life of takeaways and cheap box ticking, no effort, no lifestyle.

The last 9 days, I've been in the gym 8 times (had a day off today, and I'm cool with it) and feel ready to take the world on again.

There's not a single thing, personally, that drives me more than exercise, and I'm a fat old flapper, but if you put an hour in, you get 24 back and it's amazing

Well, talking of the joys of exercising, I was riding my bike home this afternoon /evening and went the long way round (nice day and all that) and I saw a bird over a field - clearly hunting. I thought, when it was a distance away it was a SEO, but when it got closer it turned out to be a barn owl - equally wonderful. Watched it for a while, messed up the video on my phone, but got a pic of it sitting on a fence post, as they do. Not the best pic, but just seeing an owl is a joy.

Sounds like you had a hoot.

Nice! We have lots of owls nearby but seeing one in the daylight is virtually unheard of

In Northumberland a couple of years back, we were driving back to our accommodation at around 11pm after a meal.  Heading down one of the dark, empty A-roads and we see something bang in the middle of the road.  Slowed down and then this 'thing' did the whole 180 neck turn - it was a huge owl just sat in the middle of the road.  I've never seen an owl so close up nor so big, it was absolutely beautiful.  It also just sat there for a good few seconds, almost as if it was looking into the headlights and thinking "and what?  I was here first!" before (very majestically) flying off.

No picture but, yeah, owls are cool.

The barn owls round here, in summer, they hunt in the daytime quite often, also in winter if there's been a wet spell. The most magical sighting of a barn owl I ever had was on a New Year's Day bank holiday when I had to go into work. Cycling round a deserted airfield early in the morning, absolutely freezing, the grass all frosted with, er, frost, clear blue sky and the owl was hunting near to the peri track. I slowed down and watched it hunting for about a minute. It knew I was there, but wasn't bothered...until a car came along and then it moved away towards the middle of the airfield. No photography allowed, unfortunately, or I'd have had a tangible record of a magic experience. The other epic one I had was being a Short Eared Owl (SEO) on a Friday summer's evening cycling  home, also hunting over the airfield. I stopped and watched that for about 5 minutes or more, but they're daylight hunters anyway. Posted about it here. Blimey, 11 years ago.

I was in the park with my son this evening and a group of lads aged about 10-12 were playing football and yelling abuse at each other.

Apparently the latest thing the kid's hurl at each other is:

"You're pro-Brexit."

Kids found these parts have used Tory as a general insult to each other for years

I posted a while back teenagers call others a Tory as an insult. A terrible attempt at a tackle in football is called a Brexit tackle.

That's good. At least they understand a bunch of old fogies have sold their futures down the swannie. Still hope for going back in in the future. How long before the swing has got so great it's an irresistible force?

Have had a trip planned for months, and thought this would be a good place to share it, but I wanted to do it for maximum jealousy inducement, and couldn't think of a way to do it, so, as is the norm with me, did nothing because I wanted the 'perfect' post.

Anyway, going to Happisburgh Owl Sanctuary tomorrow with my girlfriend, for a two and a half hour guided visit. Just the two of us and the owner, up close with the hand reared owls.

Also, it's pronounce "Hayzebruh" for those of you not fluent in Norfolkese.

We got the opportunity to hold a number of owls and birds of Prey at Hatton Adventure World a couple of years back. That’s a good family day out.
