chrisp65
BBC vox pops. I’m obviously sensitive to this 20mph thing at the moment, and there was a vox pop section on the local news yesterday, the usual old biddies in Pontypandy being given equal billing to legislation experts and crash injury statistics. but my stand out favourite was the woman who was very against 20mph. Her reason? ”if you are driving at 20 and someone behind is going faster than you, they could ram in to you”

Well, they call it a card holder wallet, but it does have a small space to put folded note, but not a full length sleeve. Rodders
Pretty sure the new transport minister is reconsidering it in part thankfully. So tedious going at 17mph on wide open roads for absolutely no reason at all, because some terrified drivers assume there are going to be jailed if they go at 20.5mph despite previously going down the same roads at 32/3mph would have been fine under the 30mph, no one would have noticed. Usual caveat about obviously fine past schools narrow roads, etc, and actually targeting the driving zones. And I do think slower queues make it harder to pull out as cars take longer to drive past. But probably a bit of 6 of one half a dozen of the other with that. But there are roads which are at 40 in rural areas etc that actually would benefit from adaptations as they have no safe pedestrian walking options at all. Targeted change not blanket change for me Clive. Is quite mad noticing the dread in people's eyes if there's even a hint of the 20mph rule about to crop up in conversation, managers ever alert to moving chat on quickly. Welsh tutor made a joke about it one class then immediately felt obliged to reassure everyone we would not be discussing it.

It has definitely very quickly turned in to a very similar dividing line to the greater culture war. You can pretty much guess people’s attitude on 20 from their attitude on all the other things branded woke. You’re right, not many people want to discuss it face to face, it gets heated. What will be interesting, is who would ask for the speed limit outside their own house to go up, versus how many will want the speed limit raised outside everyone else’s houses. We are, generally, quite a selfish animal where empathy appears to be secondary. I’ve quite enjoyed being able to cross the road as a pedestrian these last few months. I don’t feel I’ve missed those extra 17 seconds it takes me to get out of town.

Having more bypasses around towns would also help.

To get to my street, they’d have to get up this street. So they’re generally quite easy to spot as they are bright purple and loudly gasping for air. I’m also on the refined west end of town and we tend not to order electric bike takeaways round these executive areas. Also worth noting the photographic proof here that the island is an island.
