Popular Post chrisp65
In the post war rush for modernisation and rebuilding, the canal system around Cardiff was decimated. 70 years on and they are trying to revive and restore some sections. They weren’t all filled in, some areas were simply ignored and neglected and allowed to silt up, some small sections remain navigable for a few tens of meters here and there. Some sections were simply built over. The canal down Churchill Way was built over and turned in to a road. They are now removing that road ‘lid’. They have completed a small ‘taster’ section to illustrate the plans for the whole project. It’s only the top end closest to the shops that’s been revealed and ‘finished’ at present. No more than 20 or 30 metres of opened up waterway. It was done in the autumn / lead up to Christmas. It couldn’t be more central in the city. They’ve already spotted an otter.
sharkyvilla
Going down a bit of a YouTube rabbit hole recently I've ended up watching and learning a load of magic tricks. There's one man, Dani Daortiz who is unbelievable, makes me feel like a kid again in absolute amazement. Anyone else into magic?

The list of celebs who’ve been there is extensive (we mainly visited for the Dennis Wilson connection). Superb service and food, this cheers me up no end, and we still have time to go back

As in we went to Manchester to film it. It'll actually be aired at the end of January. What cheered me up was she absolutely loved it. Unfortunately she lost her first game, but she did really well, only lost by a few points and generally just had an awesome day. I've been telling her for 20 years to go on it as she's genuinely really good at it. In the end nerves cost her as she messed up two of the numbers games, which were really very easy. That's usually her strength so she'll kick herself when she sees it back. But it was a bucket list item and she's done it now and she'll have that memory for ever I doubt anybody is remotely interested, but her game is on tomorrow (30th)

Popular Post Davkaus
I sent an email apologising that I'll miss a couple of appointments this week. Got a quick response from the receptionist. This is the first thing to make me properly giggle in ages. Who wants to grow up. Although in fairness I don’t see her on shows often. I think she’s intelligent, generally I feel like television is better for having someone like her on presenting. I’m kinda glad she’s a success. But there’s something about her that I just don’t warm to. Maybe a condescending quality I’m picking up. Don’t know.

On the rare occasions when I've bothered watching Only Connect, her attempts at humour give me terrible 2nd hand embarrassment for her. She seems completely void of a genuine personality. However, I think - although I could be wrong... that's the joke. She deliberately does unfunny 'tumbleweed' jokes. But yeah, she's smug. Although (at the risk of invoking my own sexism & misogyny thread)... still would.

Yeah I assumed that was the joke as well Probably for the shallow Hal thread but she’s a bit too lumpy (body wise) for my taste

I don't think that is the joke though, because it gets sympathetic laughs from the teams, like they're trying to avoid the tumbleweed for her. Otherwise surely we'd all be in on the tumbleweed shtick. I think her jokes just land like Stevie Wonder's darts.

She's absolutely horrendous I absolutely adore Only Connect but she's the worst part about it. And she's clearly getting more and more time given to her to be "funny", and she's just not.
